Mayor Büyükkılıç: “Kayseri, an Open Air Museum”

Stating that Kayseri has a lot of richness specific to every subject in the field of tourism, Metropolitan Mayor Dr. Memduh Büyükkılıç said, “Our Kayseri has an ancient historical past of nearly 7 thousand years, and is full of natural beauties, especially a majestic and beautiful mountain like Erciyes, and is in the middle of Anatolia, at the crossroads of all roads, a spice route from history to this day.” It is an important city due to its location on trade caravans. "Because of all these features, Kayseri deserves to be a tourism city that can be considered as the cradle of tourism," he said.

Pointing out that Kayseri should come to the place it deserves in terms of tourism, Büyükkılıç said:

“We have this concern and strive in cooperation and solidarity with the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Metropolitan Municipality, Kayseri Provincial Directorate of Culture and Tourism, Kayseri Governorship, district municipalities and non-governmental organizations on tourism. Moreover, as a result of our efforts, we took an important step by ensuring that our gastronomy city Kayseri was included in the UNESCO Creative Cities Network National List, and we did justice to this by organizing gastronomy workshops and gastronomy days. "Our Koramaz Valley and Kültepe, with its nearly 7 thousand years of ancient history, were once again included in the Unesco World Heritage Tentative List as a result of our efforts."

Mayor Büyükkılıç, who described Kayseri as an open-air museum, stated that million-year-old fossils and prehistoric remains were unearthed with the excavations supported by the Metropolitan Municipality, and that the works and ruins were exhibited in museums.

Büyükkılıç underlined that immovable historical artifacts were also restored and brought into tourism, and said, “By supporting excavations in our city, which is an open-air museum, we helped unearth fossils and many prehistoric remains that are mentioned for millions of years. We restored our immovable concrete works such as Keykubadiye Palace, Red Mansion, Kayseri Houses and Gavremoğlu Mansion and brought them into tourism. We opened new museums, we planned to open new ones, the work continues. We carried out 6 museums, 18 restorations, 7 excavation supports and tourism activities in 8 areas in our city. We are determined to make Kayseri a city of tourism and a city of museums. "Everyone should see this beauty," he said.

Stating that tourism in Kayseri is very rich in terms of history, Kayseri also has an important place in terms of cultural and natural riches, Mayor Büyükkılıç said, “Kayseri is not a tourism city only in terms of history. It also holds an important place in terms of its rich cultural values ​​from its ancient history and natural beauty. Our city, whose gastronomy, neighborhoods and traditions are worth seeing, is waiting for its local and foreign visitors with Mount Erciyes, Hacer Forests, Kapuzbaşı, the second highest waterfall in the world, Sultan Sazlığı Bird Sanctuary, Hürmetçisi, Sindelhöyük, Soğanlı Valley, Koramaz Valley and many other natural riches that I cannot list. On the other hand, Kayseri is a city that stands out with its health tourism, where many visitors, even from abroad, come to receive health services and benefit from our city in terms of health. "Our city, which has around 15 health institutions, 30 of which are accredited, is also gaining a place in health tourism," he said.
