Izmir residents will enjoy the cable car with peace of mind

Meticulous maintenance work has been completed at the Cable Car Facilities in Balçova, where Izmir Metropolitan Municipality provides services in accordance with European Union standards, since February 5. The people of Izmir will continue to explore the views of the Gulf and the city with peace of mind in the facilities visited by approximately 2 people a day.

The maintenance works started on February 5, 2024 for the Cable Car Facility in Balçova, where Izmir Metropolitan Municipality provides services at European Union (EU) standards, have been completed. A meticulous process was carried out in the facility, which was renovated and put into service in 2015. In addition, an invitation was sent to the Union of Chambers of Turkish Engineers and Architects (TMMOB) Chamber of Electrical Engineers Izmir Branch and TMMOB Chamber of Mechanical Engineers Bursa Branch for annual periodic inspections and reporting of the facility. The people of Izmir will continue to explore the views of the Gulf and the city with peace of mind in the facilities, which are visited by approximately 2 people a day when they are in operation.

What is going on?

Annual, monthly and weekly maintenance is carried out at the facility without interruption, under the guidance of the manufacturer's recommendations, usage, maintenance and repair manuals. All moving parts in the system are overhauled as part of the annual periodic maintenance work, which must be carried out once a year. Parts that need to be replaced within the scope of measurement tolerances such as instructions and lifetime are renewed, and improvement and maintenance work is carried out in automation and electrical systems. Maintenances; trained in the field and İZULAŞ A.Ş. Controls and records are kept up to date by its technicians and technicians.

In accordance with the EN 12927-8 standard of the facility, the rope magnetic control test (MRT) is completed in 6-month periods throughout the year. In addition, the maintenance of the electrical generators and electrical transformers of the facility, which ensure uninterrupted operation of the facility, is regularly monitored. Daily operating checks are completed and recorded before the facility is started and during the day. The work is also inspected by occupational safety experts.

The facility, which was established in Izmir in 1974, was renovated and put into service again in 2015, includes observation terraces, binoculars and recreation areas. There are a total of 20 cabins in the facility. While the colorful cabins reflect the refreshing spirit of Izmir, each cabin can carry a maximum of 8 passengers. The journey by cable car takes approximately 3 minutes. An average of 810 passengers are transported in 60 minutes along the 200-meter line.
