Special Children of Izmir Returned to the City Successfully

Athletes of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality worked hard at the 2nd Down Syndrome World Sports Games (Trisome Games) and returned to the city with success. Coach Neşe Olcay Hünerli said, "It was a dream, it came true."

Athletes of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Youth and Sports Club competed in the 2nd Down Syndrome World Sports Games (Trisome Games) held in Antalya. Representatives of the Izmir team achieved significant success in the organization held between 19-26 March, wearing the national jersey.

32-year-old Alper Öztürk won the gold medal in the Artistic Gymnastics category, and 22-year-old Selin Durgut won the bronze medal in the Rhythmic Gymnastics category. Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Youth and Sports Services Department Head Hakan Orhunbilge and Izmir Youth and Sports Provincial Director Murat Eskici hosted coach İrina Dalgakıran and her team and conveyed their congratulations.

“Special children were always falling behind”

Neşe Olcay Hünerli, one of the coaches of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality who works in the Rhythmic Gymnastics Dance Board, said, “It was a dream and came true. Special children were always left behind in life. Alper and Selin, whom we met at Aşık Veysel Ice Sports Hall, which was opened in 2011, had the support of their families. "As a result, they achieved a great success that will set an example for other friends of destiny," he said.
