Akkuyu NPP Organized a Nuclear Power Plant Tour for Children!

AKKUYU NUCLEAR A.Ş. hosted 23 students from primary and secondary schools in Keben village of Silifke district at the NPP site on the eve of April 23 National Sovereignty and Children's Day. Children, accompanied by their teachers and project experts, visited the site of the nuclear power plant, which is under construction.

The children first received safety training on the field, then went down to the field wearing helmets and vests specially prepared for them. Accompanied by project experts and occupational safety officers, the little ones watched the work of various professional representatives at the nuclear power plant, which is under construction. Children, who had an unforgettable day with games and interesting tasks prepared for them at every point of the determined route, were also given very special gifts from AKKUYU NUCLEAR.

The site tour started with the Eastern Cargo Terminal, which is the main transportation hub of the project and where all oversized cargo arrives. AKKUYU NUCLEAR INC. Port Manager Okan Bozkurt explained to the children in detail his work, the structure of the cargo terminal and the ships carrying equipment and materials for the nuclear power plant under construction. Bozkurt also taught the children how to tie a sailor's knot.

The next point of the route was the site near the first power unit of Akkuyu NPP, where the world's most powerful conventionally designed crawler crane, the Liebherr LR 13000, operates. After receiving information about the dimensions and load capacity of the crane from crane operator Murat Çil, the children took turns sitting in the operator's seat.

Another stop of the children in the field was Akkuyu NPP fire brigade. Firefighters, who are on duty 24 hours a day at the nuclear power plant site and are ready to reach every point on the site within seconds, showed the children the equipment they use in their work. The fire brigade also gave a mini show to the children who watched them with interest. Receiving a training alarm signal from the dispatcher, the firefighters immediately put on their uniforms, left the warehouse in a fire truck and showed the children how they prepared for a fire by controlling the powerful flow of water coming from the fire nozzle.

As part of their field trip, students also visited the new education and training center where nuclear power plant control engineers are trained. Nuclear Fuel Control Senior Specialist Ebru Adıgüzel, who is responsible for ensuring compliance with the strict rules regarding the transportation, use and disposal of nuclear fuel, explained to the children the work done by engineers in the field. Here, the children also completed a task prepared for them and placed plastic models of fuel pellets into tubes simulating fuel rods. Before leaving the Akkuyu NPP construction site, the children also received gifts from AKKUYU NUCLEAR.

On the eve of the holiday, 15 students from Moscow schools visited the Atomic Museum opened in Moscow. After the museum tour, Moscow students visited AKKUYU NUCLEAR A.Ş. He met with the Deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors, Anton Dedusenko, and recorded a special congratulatory video for the Turkish children who visited the Akkuyu NPP site. Turkish children who visited the Akkuyu NPP site also watched this video containing the congratulations of their Russian peers and Dedusenko at the end of their trip. Addressing Turkish children in the video, Dedusenko said, “Friends, you are very lucky to live in the region where Turkey's first nuclear power plant, Akkuyu NPP, was built, which brought Russia and Turkey into a friendship that will last for 100 years! This will be an environmentally friendly and very powerful energy source. Akkuyu NPP will bring new technologies and new opportunities!
