At the center in Konak Center, maintenance and repair of battery-powered or manual wheelchairs are provided free of charge.
Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, which provides numerous services for disabled individuals' barrier-free participation in social life, also repairs broken wheelchairs. The Wheelchair Maintenance and Repair Workshop operating in Konak Center comes to the aid of disabled individuals stranded on the road. The workshop, where 10 vehicles are repaired and maintained a day, provides free service. The vehicles are picked up from the homes of disabled individuals or from the place where the malfunction occurred, and are delivered after being repaired.
Great convenience for disabled people
Cafer Çelik, President of Yeni Oluşum Association for the Physically Disabled, said: “The number of power chair maintenance workshops in our country is very small. Moreover, their repair is quite expensive. This application of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality is a great convenience for us. It should be an example for Turkey. “We thank you very much,” he said.
“We were thinking about what to do when we got stuck on the road”
Muhammet Semih Eliaçık, whose battery-powered vehicle's tire was repaired, said, “We are extremely pleased with this service. Our vehicles may break down two or three times a month. We were having great difficulties when we were stranded on the road, and we were wondering what to do. Today they picked me up from Gültepe and brought me. Since it is very difficult for us to come by taxi or minibus, we have to come by private vehicle. "Thanks to them, they repaired it immediately," he said.

Expressing his satisfaction with the service, Yunus Kurt said, “Our Metropolitan Municipality is just a phone call away. It is very important that the service is free. "We couldn't handle this job due to costs," he said.
