87,6 Percent Increase in China's Container Exports!

China's container exports amounted to 87,6 billion dollars in the first two months of the year, with an increase of 12,63 percent compared to the same period last year. In January-February, the new container export volume at China's Ningbo port increased fourfold, reaching 830 million yuan.

The market, which was severely disrupted due to the COVID-19 epidemic, has been showing signs of recovery for the last two years, but the growth rates are not satisfactory. In 2023, the world container market grew by 0,2 percent annually, reaching 173,8 million TEU. Compared to 2019, it grew by only 1,5 percent compared to the beginning of the pandemic.

On the other hand, container fleet capacity worldwide increased by 2023 percent in 2019 compared to 21 and 2022 percent compared to 8. The order book for the new ships will add approximately 4,5 percent to capacity over the next 25 years. It is estimated that recycling old ships will contribute significantly to fleet growth, although it will reduce future capacity.
