“All Children Should Laugh on April 23”

Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Tahir Büyükakın, who published a message on the 104th anniversary of the opening of the Turkish Grand National Assembly, said, "Today, we celebrate April 23 National Sovereignty and Children's Day, which is the harbinger of a hopeful future, where the joyful laughter of the children of the world comes out loudest." But unfortunately, the faces of our children in oppressed regions are not smiling, their eyes are in tears, and their future is dark. We are heartbroken and our hearts are broken. "I hope April 23 will remind the world that all children should laugh," he said.

Metropolitan Mayor Tahir Büyükakın stated in his message that this meaningful day, which Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk gifted to the Turkish Nation and the children of the world, is also one of the most important symbols of the Turkish Nation's struggle for independence and sovereignty. President Büyükakın continued his words as follows: “The opening of the Grand National Assembly, which convened as representatives of the will of the nation on April 23, 1920, is an expression of the Turkish nation's determination to continue its struggle for self-determination and independence.

We salute the little hearts that are the guarantee of our future. We are working with all our strength to ensure that you grow up in a modern world based on knowledge and love. Today is a special day gifted to you. This special day, illuminated by the smiles of all of you, is a sign of the hopeful future of children not only in our country but all over the world.

However, we should not forget that, unfortunately, our brothers in oppressed regions cannot celebrate this day. There is a bitterness and sadness in their hearts. Therefore, we must remind them that we are with them on this special day, and our prayers and support are always with them.

You are individuals who spread hope to the world, grow with love, and are equipped with knowledge. Your strong hearts are powerful hands that will make the world a more livable place. Today, we salute once again all the children who enlighten the world with their friendship and love, and we celebrate April 23 National Sovereignty and Children's Day with enthusiasm.

We wish you, the light of our future, a holiday full of love and hope.
