Major Work in a Historical Building

Located right across the City Museum in Heykel, which is described as the heart of Bursa, the historical building, which was used as the revenue office building by the Ministry of Finance for many years and was transferred to Bursa Metropolitan Municipality in 2019 on the condition that it will become the City Museum, is counting the days to serve culture with its renewed face. . With the earthquake detection studies that started in 2020, the restoration and strengthening works carried out in the historical building continue at full speed. Bursa Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Alinur Aktaş examined the works on site together with the municipal authorities and received information.

Reminding that the Bursa City Museum, which was opened in 2004 with the aim of protecting and promoting the cultural, historical, social and economic heritage of Bursa and guiding the future, operates in the courthouse and revenue office buildings built in 1926 by Architect Ekrem Hakkı Ayverdi in the style of the 1st national architectural movement. Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Alinur Aktaş said that the museum contains all kinds of documents, objects, books, visual materials, audio and video recordings related to Bursa. Mayor Aktaş said, “The additional building of the museum served as the Bursa Revenue Office building for 93 years. In 2019, it was transferred from the Ministry of Treasury and Finance to the Metropolitan Municipality as a City Museum. In 2020, we started earthquake detection studies since it was a registered building. Restoration and strengthening work on the building has begun. This is a long-term process. The City Museum, which has grown with the restoration works, doubles its size from 2200 square meters to 4400 square meters, including the courthouse. Both historical buildings will be connected by an underground tunnel. A brand new vision will be revealed from the perspective of today's museology. A new fiction will be made. "Special studies are being carried out regarding this," he said.

TARGET IS TO OPEN AT THE END OF 2024
Stating that the Bursa City Museum, where the values ​​​​of the city will be explained, was a pioneer in city museums in Turkey 20 years ago and served as a host to many cities, Mayor Aktaş said, “The restoration work of our new building will be completed towards the end of the year. It will be one of the important works we will leave to Bursa. I would like to thank my teammates for their diligent work. "Hopefully, we plan to reopen the museum by the end of 2024," he said.
