Alstom to Deliver 13 Traxx Locomotives to CLIP Intermodal

Alstom, a world leader in smart and sustainable mobility, and CLIP Intermodal, a company specialized in intermodal transport owned by Clip Group, will sign a contract in the first quarter of 2024 for the supply of a total of 13 third-generation Traxx multi-system locomotives. Traxx locomotives will be homologated for the European corridor covering France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, Austria and Poland. The Alstom facility in Kassel, Germany will be responsible for the production of the units, while the locomotive bodies will be produced at the Alstom facility in Wrocław, Poland.

“The purchase of modern multi-system locomotives following the expansion of our Intermodal Terminal in Swarzędz is another milestone in the development of the CLIP Group. Since our terminal has eight loading lines with an annual capacity of over 1 million TEU and our own fleet of 500 intermodal wagons, it was natural for us to invest in our own locomotives. I believe that Traxx locomotives will strengthen CLIP Intermodal's position, contributing to the further development of sustainable and low-emission European transport corridors. We focus on intermodal transportation as it has great potential, especially in terms of reducing greenhouse gas emissions. “The development of this type of transport is also the best response to the challenges of improving network capacity and traffic safety in transport,” emphasizes Agnieszka Hipś, CEO of CLIP Group SA.

Third generation Traxx multi-system locomotives are characterized by high operational efficiency, reliability, energy efficiency and accessible service. It is designed to lift heavier loads than other locomotives in the same class. The units ordered by Clip Group will be able to reach a top speed of 160 km per hour and will be equipped with Alstom's leading signaling system Onvia (formerly Atlas), the onboard solution for the European Train Control System (ETCS). This system offers the most comprehensive coverage across a variety of countries and lines in both ETCS and legacy system operation. Alstom is a leading locomotive maintainer and maintains more than 600 locomotives worldwide, including almost 2.450 Traxx locomotives.

“Third generation Traxx locomotives are an investment in a future focused on efficient and environmentally responsible intermodal transportation. We are proud that Alstom's modern solutions have supported the growth of this sector in Poland for many years and have helped logistics operators achieve their strategic goals. The contract with CLIP Intermodal marks our first locomotive delivery to a domestic, private operator in the European France – Poland corridor. “I believe that Traxx locomotives will contribute to the further development of a sustainable and low-emission Trans-European Transport Network.” Sławomir Cyza, General Manager of Alstom Polska, says:

Alstom's Traxx electric mainline locomotives offer a flexible design based on a powerful, modular platform approach, compatible with many applications (single or multi-country freight and passenger transport) and are available in a variety of configurations (AC, DC and multi-system). This product increases its availability by providing higher operational performance and reliability with higher energy efficiency and longer maintenance intervals. One of the most interesting features is the possibility of equipping the locomotive with the 'Last Mile' function. This enables new operating concepts, such as uninterrupted continuation from line transport traction to non-electrified lines often used to access ports, industrial areas or terminals. These locomotives are approved in 20 countries and cover a total distance of more than 300 million kilometers annually. Since 2000, over 5.700 locomotives produced by Alstom have been put into operation and are used in many European countries as well as in Asia, North America and Africa.
