Ship Sank Off Japan: 7 Killed

Anchored off Mutsure Island in Shimonoseki, Yamaguchi Prefecture, Japan, South Korea bayraklı A chemical tanker capsized and sank on Wednesday.

According to the news of Japanese broadcaster NHK, based on the Japan Coast Guard, it was announced that 7 crew members of the capsized ship died.

The crew of the 870-ton Keoyoung Sun ship reported that the ship was listing sideways at around 7.05 in the morning and asked for help.

The tanker was carrying approximately 980 metric tons of acrylic acid and a crew of 11, including eight Indonesians, two South Koreans and one Chinese.

According to the coast guard, nine foreign crew members were initially pulled from the water, seven of whom were later found to have died, while rescue teams are still searching for the two missing members.

A local meteorological observatory had issued warnings for strong winds and high waves from 7 am.
