A "History of Voice Recording" talk was held at Ege University (EU) Ethnography Museum, within the scope of "Museum Talks".

Serhan Akkuş, who started his presentation by giving information about his collection, said, “Currently, I am exhibiting a collection of 3 large and small pieces in an area of approximately 500 square meters in my workplace. Collection; It consists of telephones, radios, communication devices, phonograph-gramophones and record players, kitchen appliances, televisions, cameras, white goods, calculators, typewriters, computers and various hand tools. The works in the collection are partially worn pieces that have been used heavily in their fields since the 600s and have survived as a reflection of past technologies and cultures. What makes these pieces worth keeping for me is the stories they bring from the past and what they tell us about the usage habits of their era. "By grouping these segments, I aim to create a fiction in which I can explain all the phases they have gone through, from the works of the first period to the present day," he said.

Sharing his ideas about being a collector, Serhan Akkuş said, “Not only the social and cultural values carried by the works, but also the experiences I had while buying them, enable that work to be included in the collection. Telling my visitors about my own experience or past stories while exhibiting them is the most enjoyable moment of being a collector. "If the stories behind these works influence and capture people, the pleasure grows even more," he said.

“It is important to use past technologies as resources”

Referring to the periods in the historical development of sound recording devices, Serhan Akkuş said, “My biggest dream is to make past technologies and works available to people and to be exhibited in a system that will allow them to be used as resources in new studies. Because the creation of new technologies and works is possible by adequately examining and understanding the past. That's why I try to keep past technologies and habits alive with period works. "This type of work is also of great value for economic contribution, and it would be a great pleasure for me to be a part of it," he said. Following the interview, Serhan Akkuş answered the participants' questions about his collection. At the end of the activity, Assoc. Dr. Haluk Sağlamtimur presented a "Certificate of Appreciation" to Serhan Akkuş.
