Breathtaking International Exercise in Bursaray

The "Team Aware" project, in which Bursa Metropolitan Municipality Fire Department is a partner and HAVELSAN applied as coordinator, was chosen first among 92 projects from European Union countries.

The project, which includes a system that includes wearable chemical biological radiological nuclear (CBRN) sensors, acoustic sensors and drones, monitors emergency response teams remotely, determines their location in closed areas, detects their activities with wearable sensors and artificial intelligence, and is led by Turkey, Spain, England and Germany. There are 20 institutions from France, Italy, Portugal, Ireland, Netherlands, Belgium, Austria, Greece and Romania. HAVELSAN, which stands out with its software-based solutions in the Turkish defense industry, is carrying out the technical and administrative coordination of the project, which will enable the entire emergency response team to be monitored and managed remotely. The final program of the European Union Teamaware project, which started in 2018, was held in Bursa. The program, which was carried out with the participation of expert teams from 13 countries, was completed with exercises in the field.

BREATHTAKING EXERCISE IN METRO

Chemical field, fire and train accident drills were carried out with more than 13 personnel, with the participation of more than 80 foreign experts from 20 countries, the participation of 200 institutions, the HAVELSAN team, UMKE, Bursa Metropolitan Municipality Fire and Smart Urbanization Departments and Burulaş teams. While the chemical field and fire drills held at Küçükbalıklı Disaster Coordination Center were realistic, the train accident drill took our breath away.

According to the scenario, while the metro was passing through the tunnel between Nilüfer Station and Odunluk Station, an earthquake occurred and the metro car went off the rails. While 21 passengers in the subway were injured, the teams that arrived at the scene intervened in the incident with the latest technological equipment. While response teams were equipped with wearable technologies, a drone was first directed to the scene. Crime scene and casualty detection were primarily done with a drone. After this determination, the passengers who were able to walk were directed to the exit point on the rails, while the intervention teams entered the wagon and assessed the situation of the injured people inside. This detection was monitored instantly from the crisis center, thanks to the teams' special glasses. Following these observations and determinations, UMKE teams stepped in.

The teams provided first aid to the injured in the wagon and carried the injured, wrapped in thermal blankets, on stretchers to the station on the rails. The exercise, which lasted approximately 3 hours, was completed successfully.

Bursa Metropolitan Municipality Fire Department Head Muhammed Emin Tarım, who followed all the exercises on site, said that they successfully carried out the final program exercises of the European Union Team Aware project, of which they are a partner, under the coordination of HAVELSAN. Noting that, as Bursa Metropolitan Municipality, they attach great importance to increasing institutional capacity, developing technology and innovative projects in disaster and emergency management, Tarım said, “With this project, which started in 2018, we aimed to provide innovative incident response management with wearable technologies in our disaster and emergency teams and fire brigade. We carried out chemical field, fire and train accident drills with foreign experts from 13 countries and nearly 200 personnel. We believe that the project results will be very beneficial for our country and city. "I would like to thank all the participating teams, especially the project coordinator HAVELSAN," he said.
