Automotive Production Dropped 2024 Percent in January 3

Automotive Industry Association (OSD) announced the information for January 2024. Accordingly, total production decreased by 3 percent compared to the same month last year, reaching 108 thousand 483 units. Car production, which decreased by 5 percent compared to the same month last year, reached 67 thousand 59 units. With tractor production, total production increased to 112 thousand 737 units. In the commercial vehicle cluster, production increased by 1 percent in January and in the heavy commercial vehicle cluster by 7 percent, while in the light commercial vehicle cluster, it remained parallel to the previous year.

In January 2024, compared to the same period last year, the commercial vehicle market increased by 13 percent, the heavy commercial vehicle market increased by 1 percent, and the light commercial vehicle market increased by 15 percent. In the first month of the year, total automotive exports decreased by 5 percent in terms of units and car exports decreased by 13 percent compared to the same month of the previous year.

Automobile exports reached 44 thousand 437

During this period, total exports were 75 thousand 106 units and car exports were 44 thousand 437 units. In January 2024, the total market closed at 54 thousand 82 units, increasing by 416 percent compared to the same month last year. During this period, the car market increased by 72 percent and reached 64 thousand 41 units.

Automotive Manufacturers Association (OSD), which is the umbrella organization of the sector with its 13 members guiding the Turkish automotive industry, announced production and export figures and market information for January 2024. Accordingly, total automotive production in January decreased by 3 percent compared to the same month of the previous year, reaching 108 thousand 483 units. Car production decreased by 5 percent to 67 thousand 59 units. Including tractor production, total production reached 112 thousand 737 units. In the first month of the year, commercial vehicle production increased by 1 percent compared to the same month of the previous year. During this period, production in the heavy commercial vehicle cluster increased by 7 percent, while production in the light commercial vehicle cluster remained parallel to the previous year. In January 2024, the capacity utilization rate of the automotive industry was 67 percent. Capacity utilization rates on a vehicle cluster basis were 66 percent for light vehicles (cars + light commercial vehicles), 75 percent for trucks, 55 percent for buses and 68 percent for tractors.

2,8 billion dollars export was made

In the first month of the year, automotive exports decreased by 5 percent in terms of units compared to the same month of the previous year, reaching 75 thousand 106 units. During this period, car exports decreased by 13 percent compared to the same period of the previous year, while commercial vehicle exports increased by 9 percent. Tractor exports decreased by 2023 percent compared to the same month of 7 and amounted to 604 units. According to the data of the Turkish Exporters Assembly, total automotive industry exports started to rank first in the sectoral export rankings with a 2024 percent share in January 16. According to Uludağ Exporters' Associations (UIB) data, total automotive exports in January increased by 2023 percent compared to the same period of 2, reaching 2,8 billion dollars. In euro terms, it increased by 1 percent to 2,5 billion euros. During this period, main industry exports increased by 1 percent and supply industry exports increased by 4 percent in dollar terms.

82 thousand 416 vehicles were sold in the domestic market in January

In January 2024, the total market increased by 54 percent compared to the same month of the previous year, reaching 82 thousand 416 units. During this period, the car market increased by 72 percent to 64 thousand 41 units. Looking at the commercial vehicle market, in the first month of the year, 13 percent growth was achieved in the total commercial vehicle market, 1 percent in the heavy commercial vehicle market, and 15 percent in the light commercial vehicle market, compared to the same period of the previous year. In January 2024, compared to the same period last year, the share of domestic vehicles in car sales was 35 percent, and the share of domestic vehicles in the light commercial vehicle market was 34 percent.
