The Museum Keeping TCDD and the War of Independence Alive Together Broke a Record

Atatürk's Residence and Railways Museum in the War of Independence, located in the historical Ankara Train Station campus, broke a new record with the visit of a total of 2023 thousand 16 people in 454. Local and foreign tourists showed great interest in the museum, which continues to keep alive the spirit of TCDD and the War of Independence.

The action plan of the War of Independence was prepared, the decision to establish the Turkish Grand National Assembly was taken and Mustafa Kemal Atatürk said, "Sovereignty belongs unconditionally to the nation." In 2023, 203 thousand 13 people, 834 of whom were foreign tourists, visited the museum individually and 2 thousand 437 people visited it as a group.

THE MUSEUM SHEDS LIGHT ON THE HISTORY OF THE NATIONAL STRUGGLE AND THE RAILWAY

In the Atatürk Residence, whose ground floor is designed as the Railway Museum, various documents related to the railways dating back to 1856, commemorative medals, scissors used in station and station openings, rail samples, and silver service sets used in dining and sleeping cars are exhibited.

Seals, diplomas, identity cards used during the Ottoman period, service cards used by railway personnel, tickets, steam locomotive plates used by TCDD in train operation, telephone and telegraph machines used in communication are also presented to the visitors.

The second floor, designed as a Residence-Museum, contains Atatürk's reception room, study, bedroom and bathroom, and Fikrîye Hanım's room. The museum also contains the Vatan Yevmi Newspaper dated 1340 (1924), which included Fikrîye Hanım's obituary, donated by Fikrîye Hanım's nephew, Hayri Özdinçer, as well as her birth certificate, family tree, photographs, bedspread, the oud she played, and furniture that carries the memory of that day to the present day. It is preserved in its current state.
