The Symbol of Sivas, 'Single Tree', Has Become History

The "Single Tree" located in the Historical City Square, which has become both a symbol of the square and a meeting point among the public over time, has succumbed to time.

When the acacia tree, which was largely dried out by its roots as a result of the severe storm last year, started to rot completely, it was replaced by the plane tree, which is known for its longevity, by Sivas Municipality.

Our Mayor Hilmi Bilgin, who personally led the teams during the replacement of the tree, which has an important place in the city's memory, pointed out that Sivas has one of the most beautiful historical squares in the world and said, "There is only one tree due to its roots being damaged due to the recent storms and as a result of this, it got sick." it had dried up. "As a result of our discussions with experts in the field, our teams made great efforts to strengthen the single tree and eliminate its disease, but we could not prevent it from drying out." said.

Mayor Bilgin said, “As of today, we are replacing our only tree, which is dry and in danger of collapse, with our durable plane tree, which is suitable for our Historical City Square, has a long lifespan, and has the ability to absorb polluted air. From now on, the saying "We meet under one tree" will be changed to "We meet under the plane tree." We will renew it. Our priority in the services we provide to make our city a more livable city has always been green area works. In this sense, we are carrying out the necessary work to green every area where trees can be planted, especially our boulevards, streets and main arteries. We wished that our single tree would stand and continue to live, but it had rotted away due to the negativities experienced. So, instead of a single tree that would keep this symbol alive for many years, we brought our century-old plane tree to our historical square. I hope future generations will continue to protect and keep this iconic tree alive. “May it be beneficial to our city.” he said.

Citizens who followed the work of the teams expressed that it was necessary to replace the rotting tree with a new one over time and thanked our President Bilgin for his sensitivity to the issue.
