Dogs within the Gendarmerie General Command's Gendarmerie Commando Special Public Order Command (JÖAK) become the greatest assistants of the teams in the field with training for security operations.

Trained dogs, which are mostly used to maintain public order and neutralize terrorist elements in steep terrain and areas with difficult transportation, support the security forces in the field with the training they receive, by land and water, as well as by air.

Dogs, which can land in the operation area by parachute with the Gendarmerie team personnel regardless of the altitude, play a major role in the success of the work within the scope of the mission by neutralizing the target elements.

Trainings are as good as the truth

The parachute jumping training of "Maça", a 4-year-old Belgian Malinois breed who works as a search and rescue dog within the Gendarmerie, was filmed at Sivrihisar Aviation Center.

Before the training, which was carried out by an MI-17 type helicopter and given by JÖAK for the first time in Turkey, Maça was equipped by its instructors and made ready for the airborne mission.

Matcha, attached with hooks to the operator who would open the parachute, was taken to an altitude of approximately 10 thousand feet by helicopter.

After determining the landing area on the ground, Maça jumped from the helicopter with his operator attached to his parachute harness and landed successfully after floating in the sky for a while.

Dogs Will Be Used in Operational Tasks That Cannot Be Reached by Land

JÖAK Dog Elements Company Commander Senior Sergeant Mehmet Gördü stated that the dogs started with mountaineering training, and that there was no need for additional parachute training since the mountaineering equipment and landing training were given with a parachute harness.

Stating that the trainers are given by experts, Gördü said, "The dogs will be used with parachutes, especially in operational or rescue missions that cannot be reached by road." said.

“Dogs are Selected According to Duty Criteria”

JÖAK Dog Elements Company Commander Senior Sergeant Mehmet Gördü stated that the dogs that will participate in parachute training are selected according to the nature of the tasks and from those who have previously received training on this subject.

Stating that the trained dogs will contribute to operations especially in steep terrain, Mehmet Gördü said:

“Parachutes are a means of transportation for our dogs. After the dog reaches its destination with a parachute, all activities to be carried out on the ground will be used in its own branch, if an operation is to be carried out, it will be used in operational activities, and if it is a search and rescue task, it will be used in search and rescue duties. Dogs are selected according to task criteria.

It is ensured that enough dogs receive this training according to the need. When our dogs jump, the harness material they wear is specially produced for parachutes. The helmet and harness worn on his head are specially produced for both his own safety and the safety of the personnel he jumps with in the air. The dogs are in the same area as the paratrooper personnel. Gendarmerie Commando Special Public Order Command is ready with all its elements for any task assigned.”
