Excavations continue at full speed in the Ancient City of Phaselis in Antalya's Kemer district, which was the most important trade center of the region during the Hellenistic, Roman and Byzantine Periods.

With these works, the underground parts of the street, which has a history of more than 2 years, where many historical figures such as Alexander the Great and Emperor Hadrianus walked, will be unearthed.

Culture and Tourism Minister Mehmet Nuri Ersoy examined the excavation and repair works in Phaselis Ancient City, which started last June and continue in 4 regions.

Regarding his investigations in the ancient city, Minister Ersoy said, “After the excavation and repair works are carried out in the short term, we are carrying out all the necessary planning work to ensure that visitors to the ancient city have a much more comfortable visit with landscaping and a welcome center to be built throughout the ruins. "We allocated 2023 million lira in the first stage for 21 excavation and conservation works." said.

Culture and Tourism Minister Ersoy noted that the temple area, following the entrance road to Phaselis, was brought into a position to welcome visitors entering the city in all its splendor.

Important Areas in the Ancient City Were Uncovered

Within the scope of the excavation, repair and conservation of the main street of Phaselis, repair work continues on the southeastern part of the street between the central port, which was the heart of the trade and commodity volume of the ancient city, and the southern port, where distinguished names entered the city.

In the eastern portico of the street, which was repaired and conserved, the steps on which inscribed honoring pedestals and portico columns were positioned were also repaired.

In addition to the consolidation works in the ongoing stages in the Phaselis Ancient City, the temple, podium, naos and pronaos areas will be completely unearthed and will take their place among the few Doric temples in Anatolia.

Works from the main street in the ancient city to the central port and excavation, repair and conservation works on the steps on the east side of the street continue.

Cleaning Works Are Being Done in Aqueducts

Between the central harbor and aqueducts in Phaselis, the excavations were completed by firstly plant cleaning in the structures of the city that are thought to have functioned as workshops, workshops and sales areas in the Eastern Roman Period.

Excavation and repair work continues at the feet of the aqueducts (aquaeductus), one of the most important symbols of the city, which welcomes visitors at the entrance and is one of the most important symbols of the city.

As a result of the work carried out by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the aqueducts of the city will be cleaned, necessary repairs will be made, and the building will be strengthened, and another monumental public structure of the city will welcome those who come to Phaselis in all its splendor.
