Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu stated that the logistics sector is the main dynamo of the world economy and international trade that integrates with each other and announced that the Rize Iyidere Logistics Port Project, which is under construction, will be operational in 2025.

Abdulkadir Uraloğlu, Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, who made a series of examinations in Rize, examined the work on the Rize Iyidere Logistics Port Project on site. In his press statement here, Minister Uraloğlu stated that the works are continuing at full speed and that the Logistics Port will be put into service in 2025. Noting that Turkey is much more advantageous than other countries due to its geopolitical position at the intersection of three continents, Asia, Europe and Africa, Uraloğlu said, “Not only in the east-west corridor on the Silk Road, but also in the north-south stretching from the Caucasus countries and Russia to Africa. It is located in the middle of the corridors,” he said.

AS A COUNTRY, WE ARE A GLOBAL LOGISTICS CENTER

Uraloğlu stated that if Turkey uses this potential well, it will not only transform into a strategic power, but also lead economic development, and within this framework, global investments have been made in this direction so far.

Uraloğlu said, “In recent years, in addition to providing multi-modal transportation connections within the country, we have been working very seriously to establish uninterrupted and high quality transportation infrastructures between continents by creating corridors. With an investment of approximately 21 billion dollars in the last 194 years, improving our transportation infrastructures, expanding these networks and completing the missing connections on international transportation routes have been among our priorities. In this context; We consider the “one belt, one road project” that will connect Asia, Europe and the Middle East as a very important opportunity for our country. In this context, the train, which made its first flight from Baku to Kars on the Baku - Tbilisi - Kars Railway Line, which was realized on the basis of the cooperation between Turkey, Azerbaijan and Georgia, gave a new direction to the world railway transportation. This line, which started its operations on October 30, 2017, ushered in a new era in rail freight transport between Asia and Europe. Likewise, our Istanbul Airport has become a global hub in both passenger and air freight transportation.

In the first half of 2023, it ranked first among the top 2019 airports with the best cargo traffic in Europe, with an increase of 28% compared to the same period of 10. Again, our Filyos Port, with its container handling capacity of 25 million tons, has become one of the most concrete works of this vision.”

IT IS A GREAT STEP TAKEN FOR OUR COUNTRY TO BE A GLOBAL LOGISTICS BASE

Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu said, "The Eastern Black Sea Region has strategic importance with its location on the Caucasus corridor opening to Europe and Central Asia" and said that the port will be the transfer center of the combined transportation chain that will arise from the potential traffic between the Caucasian countries and the Middle East countries.

Minister Uraloğlu continued his words on this issue as follows;

“Our port is 20 kilometers from Rize city center and 50 kilometers from Trabzon city center. The main breakwater will be 2 meters long and the secondary breakwater will be 700 meters long. It will be the new address for large tonnage ships in the Black Sea basin with a total annual capacity of 470 million tons including general cargo, bulk cargo, container load and Ro-Ro transportation. It is a great advantage that it is an alternative that reduces the 13 billion dollar import of Iran's northern states using Dubai ports from one month to 25 days. With this feature, it will contribute greatly to the share of the region and our country in maritime trade.”

Minister Uraloğlu informed that the field work of the project continues successfully, that approximately 27 percent progress has been achieved throughout the project, and that the project will be operational in 2025. Uraloğlu said, “We will provide employment for 600 people at the first stage with its inauguration.

We anticipate that this number of employment will increase over time. Iyidere Logistics Port is a seal on the future of Rize. He said, "It will be a locomotive that will accelerate the development rate of the whole region, especially Rize."
