Three more pleasing news came from our applications, which gained momentum within the scope of international geographical indication mobilization efforts.

Minister of Industry and Technology Mehmet Fatih Kacır, who recently announced that Ayaş Tomato has completed the examination processes and been published in the EU Official Gazette, gave the good news of three more geographical indications that are on the way to registration in the European Union.

Minister Kacır shared the information that the examination processes of the geographical indication applications made to the European Union for Edremit Bay Green Scratched Olives, Ezine Cheese and Maraş Tarhana have been completed and published.

Stating that the European Union geographical indication applications can be made directly by the producers as per the legislation, but also through TÜRKPATENT, TÜRKPATENT has applied for geographical indication to the EU Commission for 2023 products in 12, including Ezine Cheese. When we compare TÜRKPATENT applications with other applications, we see that we get faster results. I invite national applicants to receive technical support from TÜRKPATENT to complete the necessary preparations for the registration of the European Union. Increasing the number of geographically marked products registered internationally is important in terms of promoting our local and cultural heritage to the whole world and ensuring sustainability in production.” said.

Kacır stated that, in addition to our 13 registered geographical indications in the European Union, we have 5 applications for geographical indications at the announcement stage and 39 during the examination phase, "I congratulate our provinces of Balıkesir, Çanakkale and Kahramanmaraş, which have crowned our historical and cultural heritage with geographical indication registrations, and hope that registrations that will add value to production will increase. ” said.

Geographical indications, whose applications are approved by the EU Commission, are registered in the EU Official Journal after the expiry of the 3-month objection period. In the coming days, Milas Oil Olives, whose objection period will expire today; Ayaş Tomatoes, Edremit Bay Green Scratched Olives, Ezine Cheese and Maraş Tarhana are expected to be registered in November.
