Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu pointed out that the number of passengers increased due to the increasing tourism traffic in Trabzon and said that a new airport project is planned. Minister Uraloğlu said, “Trabzon Airport is one of the most important airports in the country with an annual passenger capacity of 4 million. It is a very important success that it ranks 7th in the number of domestic passengers and 10th in the number of international passengers. On June 30, 2023, we will bring a new airport to Trabzon, which broke the record with 145 aircraft traffic. Between January and July 2023, Trabzon reached a total of 339 thousand 695, including 397 thousand 442 locals and 737 thousand 137 foreigners. The ever-increasing tourism potential and the number of tourists have created the need for a new airport.

Emphasizing that the Black Sea Region, which draws attention with its tourism potential, has become a center of attraction with its natural beauties, plateaus and sea, Minister Uraloğlu said, “Germany, Azerbaijan, UAE, Bahrain, Iraqi Kurdistan Region, Israel, Qatar, TRNC, Kuwait, Saudi Planes landed from 12 different countries such as Arabia, Oman and Jordan. This is an important indicator of the tourism potential in the region. This potential is increasing with each passing year," he said.

NEW AIRPORT IS IMPLEMENTING

Minister Uraloğlu said, “Until a new airport project is implemented, the existing airport will continue to function. At the same time, improvements were made to the existing airport. I believe that these positive developments in the tourism sector will also contribute to the economic development of the region.”

TOURISM MOBILITY IN TRABZON REFLECTED TO THE NUMBERS

Minister Uraloğlu, who also shared the number of 2022 tourists in Trabzon, said, “The number of domestic tourists was 293 thousand 657, and the number of foreign tourists was 222 thousand 48, a total of 515 thousand 705 tourists. In January-July 2023, the number of tourists reached a total of 339 thousand 695, of which 397 thousand 442 domestic and 737 thousand 137 foreign tourists. There was also a significant increase in the number of aircraft passengers. In 2022, the number of domestic passengers was 2 million 471 thousand 442, the number of international passengers was 703 thousand 337, with a total of 3 million 174 thousand 779. In January-July 2023, the number of passengers reached 1 million 498 thousand 345, of which the number of domestic passengers was 457 million 606 thousand 1, and the number of international passengers was 955 thousand 951.
