Izmir Metropolitan Municipality will now notify the citizens of critical events such as precipitation and flood risk, and warning messages will be sent in case of disasters such as fire and landslide, with the Emergency Information System that it has commissioned. Thanks to the system, regional weather forecasts will be sent to the phones via message, specifying the time intervals.

Izmir Metropolitan Municipality has launched another vital application for emergencies that may occur in the city. With the Emergency Information System (ADBİS), weather forecasts will be made regionally; In case of disasters such as precipitation, floods, and floods, citizens will be warned with a message to be sent to their phones days in advance. The time intervals of possible weather events will also be specified. ADBIS, which is the joint work of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Information Processing Department and Fire Brigade Department, will prevent Izmir residents from encountering unexpected weather events.

Citizens will be informed days in advance

Ata Temiz, Head of IT Department of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, shared the following information about the application they implemented: “The logic of this work is to deliver all kinds of regional-based disasters such as rain, flood, hail to citizens through the system and to ensure that they are informed. For example, there is heavy rainfall in Beydağ. Notification of this will be sent to the citizens of Beydağ via SMS a few days in advance. There is a forest fire and it is approaching a village, we will send a warning message to all the people in that village. In case of disasters such as landslides, floods, and fires, all details of the event will be available to people thanks to the system. This is a system that we manage as a municipality. The system works with an algorithm we set up. The artificial intelligence that we have established by taking information from many different services makes an interpretation and obtains a result. This tells us the result. Our staff is also reporting the situation to our people.”

Provides early intervention

Stating that thanks to ADBIS, headmen and municipal officials will be informed and take precautions, Temiz said, “Thanks to this system, we also have the chance to intervene in the events early. For example, we will have received the information that a flood may occur a few days in advance. And we will be able to determine the measures we can take due to the flood," he said.

It will make daily life easier

İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Fire Brigade Department Head İsmail Derse stated that they would receive information via the ADBIS system in case of fire or a different disaster, adding, “For example, there is a forest fire and it threatens settlements. We will immediately inform the people in that area. Individuals will also be able to take action individually. Again, we take action quickly in cases such as traffic accidents, road congestion, floods and floods, any major factory fire, earthquake disasters. Saying that they will mark the critical points where road crossings are closed in a possible flood, Derse said, “We offer alternative road suggestions. We aim to direct the relevant units to the troubled address and quickly eliminate the negativities to be experienced.”
