Within the scope of the 7th Live Surgery Symposium organized by the Turkish Ophthalmology Association, 4 eye surgeries were performed for 70 days at the Ministry of Health Ankara Bilkent City Hospital. At the symposium, surgeries performed by ophthalmologists were broadcast live and watched by over 600 foreign ophthalmologists around the world. In the surgeries, a total of 250 people, including ophthalmologists and health personnel, took part in the eye health of 70 patients.

“An organization that is almost like no other in the world”

President of the Turkish Ophthalmology Association Prof. Dr. Ziya Kapran explained that the symposium is an event that is given great importance by ophthalmologists in the national and international arena in terms of live surgery training and that the live broadcasts are watched by over 600 foreign doctors.

Ziya Kapran said, “This year, very intensive surgeries were performed for 6 days in 4 different branches of the eye. This is an organization that is almost like no other in the world. Each operation is recorded and then monitored and discussed by physicians. Within the scope of the symposium, we had experts from abroad and from the country. They also shared their suggestions and opinions over the live broadcast while the surgical operations were being performed. In this context, scientific discussions were held. The operations performed for 4 days were planned to cover all surgical units of the eye. For example, this included retinal (vitreoretinal), cornea, cataract and refractive, glaucoma, strabismus and oculoplastic surgery.” used his statements.

500 ophthalmologists watched the surgeries

prof. Dr. Pointing out that the world's most advanced technology is used in the field of ophthalmology in Turkey, Kapran said, “Approximately 600 ophthalmologists from abroad actively watched these surgeries and the symposium and benefited from the trainings. 805 ophthalmologists attended the symposium from Turkey. The number of physicians watching these different surgeries has increased from time to time, because each physician watches the surgeries related to his field live. When we look at the end of the symposium, it is possible to say that a total of 500 local and foreign physicians participated in the symposium.” said.

Emphasizing that they are honored to organize such an organization as the Turkish Ophthalmology Association, Kapran added:

“We performed a total of 70 eye surgeries on live broadcast. We performed surgeries in which all cases related to eye health were treated and very advanced treatments were performed. In this sense, the technological infrastructure of Bilkent City Hospital was also at a high level. All of these technologies have been shared with our colleagues, and I would like to thank the hospital management on behalf of TOD for their important support. As ophthalmologists, we love our profession, with great pride and devotion. Thanks to the medical developments in our country, we are all very proud that the surgeries were performed very successfully. We will start working for the 8th Live Surgery Symposium, which we will hold next year, starting tomorrow. On behalf of the TOD Board of Directors, I would like to thank all the physicians and health personnel who contributed.”
