The opening of the exhibition, which includes never-published Istanbul frames by Steve McCurry and a portrait of Ara Güler, was held at the Istanbul Cinema Museum. Within the scope of the exhibition, a symposium was held under the moderation of Orhan Cem Çetin and hosted by Laleper Aytek and Ercan Arslan, in which photography, art and journalism were discussed, bringing the business and art worlds together. The exhibition can be seen until 31 July.

The Afghan Girl: An exhibition of 51 works by photographer Steve McCurry, known for his memorable image of Şarbat Gula, opened its doors at the Istanbul Cinema Museum. In addition to the works that the artist has shot in many different parts of the world in the last 30 years and photographed during his Istanbul trip in 2011, 6 frames that have never been published before, including Ara Güler, met with art lovers. Within the scope of the exhibition, a symposium was organized to examine the relationship between photography, art and journalism, moderated by Orhan Cem Çetin and hosted by Laleper Aytek and Ercan Arslan.

The invitation hosted by Ceyhun Tuzcu, General Manager of Istanbul Cinema Museum; Danish Consul General Thierry Hoppe, Taro Emir Tekin, Ebru Uygun and Itır Erhart attended the ceremony. The guests received information about the Steve McCurry Exhibition and toured the exhibition. Ceyhun Tuzcu talked about the history of the Istanbul Cinema Museum and talked about the film restoration works using artificial intelligence to bring old films back to the cinema with new technologies. Ceyhun Tuzcu also talked about the Stanley Kubrick exhibition held at the Istanbul Cinema Museum in recent months and said that they are very happy to host the Steve McCurry exhibition.

Steve McCurry, who gained worldwide fame with the photograph he published with the title “Afghan Girl” (Afghan Girl: Sharbat Gula) in the June 1985 issue of National Geographic Magazine, presents windows that he opens into other worlds with the forms and colors, shapes and symmetries he reveals with an intelligent eye. The works of the artist, who draws his strength from his great curiosity towards every living being on earth, are shown within the scope of the exhibition, in which he focuses on fleeting moments of human experience by going beyond language and cultural borders with a unique talent.

Steve McCurry, who attended the symposium with a video interview, said, “The basis of most of my photographs is people. I'm in pursuit of the moment when all the walls that a person has built around him collapse and the real self emerges, the experience that is etched on a person's face. I'm trying to convey what it's like to be in that person's place." During the interview, Steve McCurry also drew attention to the common language of cinema and photography and underlined that the common point of both arts is framing.

The exhibition, where the extraordinary works of Steve McCurry, the owner of numerous prestigious awards and 13 books published on international platforms, can be seen, will continue until July 31 at the Istanbul Cinema Museum.
