The Construction Club, which participated in the 16th De&Co (Design and Construct) International Steel Bridge Design Competition hosted by Boğaziçi University Engineering Faculty, on behalf of Erzurum Technical University (ETU), won 3rd place with the project they named Naim Bridge.

ETU Engineering and Architecture Faculty Civil Engineering Department third year students Ayça Genç, Emirhan Nuri Bektaş, Hilmi Karadayı and Alpay Social were the technical advisors of the team, Res. See. Burak Gedik, the academic advisor of the club, Dr. Made by Wish Reader. Influenced by the national weightlifter Naim Süleymanoğlu, the project called Naim Bridge was qualified for the finals as a result of the design and calculation evaluations made by the referees.

The final stage, in which the mechanical performance, weight and joining time of the bridge were evaluated, was held on the Boğaziçi University campus between 8-12 May 2023. Naim Bridge won the third place for ETU with the evaluation of all performance parameters as a result of the application and test stages.

All computer and laboratory facilities of ETU were used during the design and manufacturing phase of the bridge. More than a month of intensive work was carried out in the Structural Mechanics Laboratory for bridge fabrication. Erzurum Metropolitan Municipality and Chamber of Civil Engineers provided sponsor support to the competition team.

Congratulating the students and advisors, ETU Rector Prof. Dr. Bülent Çakmak: “I would like to congratulate our students and advisors who participated in the competition in a manner befitting our university, and thank the Erzurum Metropolitan Municipality and the Erzurum Branch of the Chamber of Civil Engineers for their sponsorship support to our youth. This international success achieved by our students as a result of a long process and hard work made us all happy. ETU's participation in the 16th De&Co International Steel Bridge Design Competition hosted by Boğaziçi University for the first time and its success is also an important indicator of the quality of civil engineering education given at our university. All our technical facilities are mobilized for our students to improve themselves. As a matter of fact, after the Kahramanmaraş earthquakes that our country experienced, the importance of qualified civil engineering education was once again revealed. I think that our young people who want to improve themselves in this field, taking into account our academic staff, achievements and professional positions of our graduates, will favor ETU during their preference period. I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate our young people for their success in the De&Co International Steel Bridge Design Competition.” he said.
