Things to Consider in Energy Efficiency Projects

Vat Energy Deputy General Manager Gökay Çomoğlu explained the criteria to focus on while implementing energy efficiency projects.

Stating that digitalization is very important in energy efficiency studies, Vat Energy Deputy General Manager Gökay Çomoğlu said; “We conducted 2022 large-scale energy studies in 80. In the facilities we visited, we saw that the systems we describe as energy users are not measured, records are not kept and the necessary instruments are not in operation. This is a very sad situation because this is the situation where we say that we cannot manage anything that we cannot measure. Among the items that increase the electricity bill in industrial facilities; It can be a steam system, compressed air or cooling system. If the facility does not observe the amount of electricity consumed during the year and the differences between seasonal transitions, it means that it is experiencing a serious loss. Monitoring the energy is very important in this respect.” said.

IT IS NECESSARY TO MEASURE ENERGY EXPENSES

Çomoğlu said that among the systems that increase the energy costs of a factory, there are points such as steam, compressed air or cooling; “The factories need to measure how many kilowatts a cubic meter of air is consumed, or how much natural gas is consumed for one ton of steam by collecting long-term data. If their consumption is not calculated on the basis of the trends on a yearly basis, it means that they are experiencing a serious loss. In this respect, the energy monitoring system is very important.” said.

365 DAYS ENERGY STUDY

Çomoğlu emphasized the goals they set 4 years ago with Vat Energy General Manager Altuğ Karataş; “We set out with the dream of performing a 365-day energy audit and developed this challenging energy monitoring system. By partnering with the software company, we developed good software by absorbing the expectations of senior executives. Currently, over 50 large-scale enterprises operating in Turkey use the Observer software we developed and regularly monitor and track their energy. This software is not only a monitoring system, but also a special system that can respond to the energy manager's requests. It includes options such as ISO50001 module and carbon emission measurement module. Many data can be accessed from options such as reporting, energy density map, specific energy consumption, trend analysis. All businesses should do this monitoring.”
