With the bridge built by Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality in Sarılar District of Sur district, the roads of 16 neighborhoods came together.

The Road Construction Maintenance and Infrastructure Coordination Department has completed the construction of the 108 meters long and 10 meters wide bridge over the Tigris river in Sarılar district.

The bridge is the axis connecting the Sur, Bismil and Çınar districts and is an important route especially for the passage of large vehicles such as trucks and lorries.

“Great service”

Mehmet Nur Sarı, the headman of Sarılar Mahallesi, said that they have been using the bridge they built with their own means for 25 years.

Stating that even when they have an emergency patient, they are delayed in transporting them to the hospital due to the length of the road, Sarı said:

“It is a great service that connects 3 districts and 16 neighborhoods. To go to Diyarbakir, we had 30 kilometers to go and 30 kilometers to come. We used to have a lot of trouble using the old bridge when the waters rose in the river, but now no one has any trouble. Citizens were very happy. Many thanks to those who contributed.”

Celal Sarı, one of the residents of the neighborhood, said:

“The old bridge was troubled, there was no crossing when the waters rose. The bridge that is being built now is for the citizen, for the whole region.
