COOPERATION WITH THE CHAMBER OF GEOLOGICAL ENGINEERS

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the convention, ABB Deputy Secretary General Bekir Ödemiş stated that both the Department of Cultural and Natural Heritage and the Department of Earthquake Risk Management and Urban Improvement work in cooperation with the Chamber of Geological Engineers in all their work.

“As Ankara Metropolitan Municipality, we opened our doors to all professional chambers, non-governmental organizations and universities without prejudice and sincerity. We experienced one of the best examples of this with the Chamber of Geological Engineers. In 2020, as Ankara Metropolitan Municipality, we started a cooperation protocol signed by Hüseyin Alan, President of the Chamber of Geological Engineers, and our President, Mansur Yavaş. In this context, we have taken an important step in determining, protecting and developing the existing geopark areas in Ankara. We are proud of being the first municipality to receive a certificate by participating in the program initiated by the United Nations to make cities more resistant to disasters. We will include Kızılcahamam and Çamlıdere geosite in UNESCO's natural heritage list.”

EARTHQUAKE RISK MANAGEMENT AND URBAN IMPROVEMENT DEPARTMENT OPENED A STAND

ABB Earthquake Risk Management and Urban Improvement Department also opened a booth at the convention, attended by many national and international companies.

Mutlu Gürler, Head of Earthquake Risk Management and Urban Improvement Department, said, “With a study we started last year, to convey the works of the Metropolitan Municipality on increasing urban resilience and preparing the society for disasters to earth science experts, planning experts and engineers from all over our country and to raise awareness in this direction. we want. If our society does not reach enough awareness about disasters, if we do not demand legislative changes in this direction, if the legislators do not correct the deficiencies before it is too late, unfortunately, we are mourned with loss of life in every earthquake and every natural disaster. We wanted to increase this awareness, we wanted to share our work with the masses that we cooperate in the disaster planning processes working in our profession all over Turkey," he said.

Halil İbrahim Yılmaz, Term Chairman of the Union of Turkish City Councils and Chairman of the Ankara City Council, emphasized that it is vital to take into account the opinions of experts during the earthquake process and said, “In a country where 2,5 million people benefit from the reconstruction peace, we cannot manage the disaster process by questioning the politicians alone. If we are not as curious as to what floor the house is on as much as we are wondering about the label on the faucet of the house when buying a house, we are the owner of the irresponsibility here. As long as you do not consider the managers of this great organization of earth scientists, which has more than 18 thousand members, you will pay a heavy price, no matter how much quality production you make above.
