Mersin Metropolitan Municipality visited the schools with the Mobile Library Bus 'Kitobüs', which is affiliated to the Department of Culture and Social Affairs, within the scope of the 27 March – 2 April Library Week, and distributed free books to the students. The students, who were very excited when they saw the Mobile Library and spent time in it, also had the opportunity to examine different books.

One of the schools that 'Kitobus', which visits all districts of Mersin from neighborhood to neighborhood, serves to help children gain the habit of reading and develop their imagination, is Tömük Dr. of Erdemli district. It became Mustafa Erden Secondary School. In Kitobus, which visits a school every day, there is a reading hour as well as book distribution and promotion.

The team of the Department of Culture and Social Affairs also informs children about the importance of books and the library, and how to behave in the library.

Sümen: “We visit our schools and present books to our children and youth”

Sinem Sümen, the librarian of the Department of Culture and Social Affairs, stated that they often come together with the students and said, “Because it is Library Week, we visit our schools and present books to our children, young people, in short, to everyone. Children read these books with interest. Our children can also become members of our library whenever they want. We go when schools demand and we want to make our children love books.”

“We read the books we wanted”

7th grade student Damla Betül Aydoğmuş evaluated the arrival of Kitobus to their school and said, “It was really different. The books are beautiful. I saw one book inside, it was so beautiful. I was a little happy about that. "I went to the library once when I was in my hometown, but it wasn't as nice as this one," he said.

Stating that he had the opportunity to examine the books he wanted at Kitobus, Ünsal Armut said, “This is the first time a mobile library has been brought to our school. We read the books we wanted, so I am very happy”, while Elif Dilan Gezici said, “I think the library was very nice and we loved it. Our friends also loved it.
