Speaking at the assembly session where the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality and ESHOT 2022 Activity Report were approved, Mayor Soyer announced that the total investment value they brought to Izmir during his term of office was 38,6 billion liras. Saying that 78 percent of the total investment in Izmir belongs to the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, Soyer said, “Izmir is admired from the outside. I am proud of my colleagues,” he said.
Announcing that they continue to weave İzmir with iron nets and that trial runs have started in the Narlıdere Metro, Soyer said, “When I took office 4 years ago, it was my dream to enlarge the prosperity of İzmir and to ensure its fair share. Earthquake, pandemic, economic crisis. We didn't make excuses. In this process, we have never given up on our main goal, that is, to increase the welfare of İzmir and ensure its fair distribution at all costs.”
In the 3rd meeting of the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Assembly April regular meeting, the 2022 Activity Report of the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality and the General Directorate of ESHOT was voted and accepted. Explaining the highlights of the activities of the Metropolitan Municipality in 2022, Mayor Soyer reminded that he mentioned the concepts of courage and harmony while presenting the 2021 Activity Report to the parliament last year, and said, “What we experienced in 2022 and at the very beginning of 2023 showed that we need these two values more than ever before. . Our cities, which were destroyed in the morning on February 6, invite us to innovation. The drift of one of the most fertile countries in the world, our country, towards economic collapse calls us for a total change. And we know that every change takes courage. We have to find that courage and keep it alive. We wholeheartedly believe in the power of harmony. We believe that the reasons that unite us are stronger than those that divide us.”

Mayor of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Tunç Soyer, by sharing a video recording in the assembly, announced the start of trial flights in Narlıdere Metro. Soyer said, “In Narlıdere Metro, which we bought with 12 percent, we reached 96 percent. The video you see is from Narlıdere Metro. We can get on and take a tour together next week. Escalators are stuck. On February 3 this year, we signed an investment of 30 million Euros with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development to be used in the Fahrettin Altay-Narlıdere Metro line project, but nothing is signed. Are you saying that there is someone running behind you in front of you or get your signature? No signing since Feb. Why isn't it fired? “The bank needed additional collateral to complete it,” he said.
Reminding that the total amount of expenditure for Narlıdere Metro is 287 million Euros, President Soyer continued his speech as follows:
“We laid the foundation of the Buca Metro, which is the biggest rail system investment of İzmir, made by İzmir Metropolitan Municipality with its own resources, and started the works immediately. We expect the project, which is estimated to cost 765 million Euros, to be completed by the end of 2025. We have completed 2023 percent of the Çiğli Tram, which we will put into service in 183 and cost 93 million Euros. As promised, we will open it within this year. We are working hard to make İzmir a world city in urban transportation. We are doing our best to make up for the lost years. There's no turning back from this road we've taken. Despite all the difficulties, we will continue to weave İzmir with iron nets.
