The Ministry of Culture and Tourism stated that the tomb stele belonging to the 2nd century AD, which was smuggled from the ancient city of Zeugma in Gaziantep, will be brought to Turkey as a result of cooperation with the Italian authorities.

In the statement made by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, “Our tomb stele, which was smuggled from the Gaziantep Zeugma Ancient City and belongs to the 2nd century AD, is returning to our country in cooperation with the Italian authorities. The stele, which carries important scientific data, will be delivered to our Embassy in Rome and will be returned to the land it belongs to.” it was said.

Culture and Tourism Minister Mehmet Nuri Ersoy made a statement on his social media account, “When I started my ministry, the first historical artifact we returned was from Gaziantep Zeugma. Today, I am happy to provide the return of another artifact originating from this ancient city. Our fight against smuggling of historical artifacts will continue with all our stakeholders.” made statements.
