The 'Antique Market', which was established within the body of Mersin Metropolitan Municipality Women and Family Services Department with the slogan 'There is Labor in Memories', takes antique lovers from Mersin on a journey through history. Established across Merdok Site on 2,5 Ring Road in Yenişehir district, the market opens its doors every two weeks on Saturdays.

Many items from gas lamps to stone records, from gramophones to radios, from copper items to rosaries, from sewing machines to typewriters, from trinkets to antique clocks are offered to citizens at the Antique Bazaar. While antique dealers from Mersin center and districts offer their products for sale, citizens who come to see and buy antiques travel to their memories accompanied by songs that take them back to the past. The Antique Market will be open on Saturday, April 8 and April 22, in April.

“It was very good for Mersin”

Sakine Arslantaş, who has been selling at the Antique Bazaar since its opening, said, “It is very nice, there was never such a thing when we were talking among the tradesmen. Thank God Vahap Seçer, our President, organized such a thing. It was also very good for Mersin. The shopkeepers are also satisfied,” he said. Stating that the people of Mersin have a good interest in the market, Arslantaş said, "It is beginning to be heard, but of course it is increasing day by day."

“Very nice service”

Murat Yılmaz, who has been a gramophone and record collector for 15 years, said, “My own collection is all of the products here. Music is truly soul food, but a record is a different matter. I can say that listening to stone records takes one to the highest level of music. We have been here for 1.5 months. We set up a stand every 15 days. Since it is difficult to find a stone record, the interest is a little low, but I hope we will increase this interest thanks to this market. Here, we both listen to the records and sell them to those who want to buy them. We also sold quite a few gramophones. I hope the music will go back to the old days. Very nice service. I usually get my record collection from antique markets in Istanbul and Ankara. There are also these markets. We wanted it to be in Mersin as well. We would like to thank our Municipality again for both promotion and sensitivity towards music. Participation is also good.”

“They come as a family, they visit the antique market”

Abdullah Kendir said that there are regular visitors to the Antique Bazaar. Hemp said, “The products we have accumulated over the years. I was one of the first to apply when the antique place opened. Really regular people come here and there are good sales here. They are very curious, they come as a family, they visit the antique market.”

Ahmet Şan said, “It makes us happy and happy that he gives importance to such historical, cultural and artistic works. Participation is quite good, interest is high. We would like to thank Mersin Metropolitan Municipality.
