Capitalists enthusiastically welcomed ASKİ Sports National Wrestlers Taha Akgül, Süleyman Atlı, Soner Demirtaş, İbrahim Çiftçi and Emrah Ormanoğlu, who returned with medals from the European Championship held in Croatia, at Esenboğa Airport. Sports clubs within the body of Ankara Metropolitan Municipality continue to make their name known to the world with the success they have achieved in national and international competitions and the medals they have received.
In the European Wrestling Championship held in Zagreb, the capital of Croatia, ASKİ Sports National Wrestler Taha Akgül became the European champion with the Gold Medal for the 125th time in 10 kg freestyle, and Süleyman Atlı was the second in Europe in the Silver Medal, Soner Demirtaş, İbrahim Çiftçi and Emrah Ormanoğlu. He also placed third in Europe in the Bronze Medal.
At Esenboğa Airport, the people of Başkent, accompanied by the marches of the Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Janissary Team, showed love to the champion athletes with flags and flowers in their hands.
ATHLETES MADE ITS MARK IN WORLD Wrestling
National Wrestler Taha Akgül of ASKİ Spor, who won the 10th European championship of his career, said, “We have completed the European championship with the heart. We won the tenth championship by right of our wrist and returned to our country. It was a double feast for our nation. The tenth championship means to me; great effort, great work and perseverance… We achieve historical successes. We are breaking records in world history. Especially our success has been a morale booster for the earthquake victims, I hope we got these medals on their behalf. Let the medals we receive be gifts to them,” he said.
Abdullah Çakmar, General Coordinator of ASKİ Sports, stated that they are very happy that 5 of the medals won in the championship are from ASKİ Spor.
“Our wrestlers showed great success and left their mark on world wrestling. I present these medals to our great nation. We have the world championship ahead of us. We want to achieve our 2024 goals by achieving good success in freestyle wrestling, just as we prepared there and left our mark on Europe. I would like to thank our Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mansur Yavaş for his unwavering support.”
Returning to the country as the third place in Europe, Soner Demirtaş said, “Everyone who goes there goes to become the team champion. At least we did not return empty-handed, I brought another medal to my club. Let the medals we receive be gifts to the earthquake martyrs and their families," while İbrahim Çiftçi said, "It was my first medal in this category. Third place was lucky. I thank everyone,” he said.
