As the Ukrainian crisis continued to escalate, the phone call of the leaders of China and Ukraine aroused great interest in the international community. Chinese President Xi Jinping held a phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenski, upon invitation, and exchanged views on the Ukraine crisis.

Zelensky appointed Pavlo Raibikin as Ukraine's Ambassador to Beijing on the same day. After meeting with Xi, Zelenski tweeted, "I had a long and productive phone conversation with Chinese President Xi Jinping. I believe that bilateral relations will be improved with this meeting and the appointment of the new Ambassador of Ukraine to Beijing.

It was the first phone call between Xi and Zelensky since the outbreak of conflict between Russia and Ukraine in February 2022. Positive responses came as soon as possible from many countries, including Russia and the USA.

China is making great efforts to promote peace talks

Xi spoke by phone with Zelensky at the invitation of Ukraine. Earlier, Zelenski had repeatedly requested a phone call with Xi. But now that the time has come, his request has been answered.

Before the Ukraine crisis occurred, China and Ukraine maintained good cooperation in the fields of economy and trade. After the crisis, bilateral relations faced great pressure. Some countries have attempted to disrupt China-Ukraine relations by using the crisis. But yesterday's phone call showed that the bilateral relationship is solid and unaffected by the crisis.

This phone call reflected that the Chinese side was seriously encouraging the peace talks. China is trying to create a positive environment with its leader's diplomacy, not just explaining its own position. China has not prioritized being closer or farther with some countries, as the US made it up. China always evaluates the Ukraine crisis with a fair attitude.

Ukraine is now asking the international community to pay more attention and provide humanitarian aid. The Ukrainian side realized that the real purpose of helping it by the US and NATO was simply to use Ukraine as a pawn to impose sanctions on Russia. Therefore, it is time for Ukraine to think deeply and pragmatically on the way to resort to the resolution of the crisis.

The critical time has come: the rational voices of the parties are rising

Today, the main great powers of the world are more or less involved in the crisis between Russia and Ukraine. Although China was not the creator or party of the crisis, it did not remain a bystander. China is making efforts to resolve the crisis through political means.

In the phone call, Xi stressed that China cannot stand by, add fuel to the fire, or profit from the crisis.

China is in an appropriate position to resolve the crisis through political means.

First, Europe, Russia and Ukraine rely on China's efforts in this regard. Even the United States cannot openly reject China's efforts in this regard. China's efforts have no particular purpose, so China is in a stable and trusted position.

Secondly, China's authority is also embraced by the parties. As a permanent member of the UN Security Council, China is playing an increasingly important role in regional and global affairs.

Third, the Ukrainian crisis has been going on for more than a year. The tension is in danger of escalating and spiraling out of control. Responsible countries around the world are waiting for a solution.

As Xi said in the phone call, since the conscious voices from the relevant parties have increased recently, it is necessary to seize the opportunity and gather the appropriate opportunities to put the crisis on the political path.

China's solution route has become clearer

Xi said on the phone that China's Special Envoy for Eurasian Affairs will visit Ukraine and hold in-depth contacts with the parties to resolve the crisis through political means.

China's path to resolving the Ukraine crisis has become clearer. China's main stance is to promote peace talks. Xi said the “Four Requirements” (The sovereignty and territorial integrity of each state must be respected; the UN Charter must be respected; Reasonable security concern must be given importance to each state; all efforts that are beneficial to the peaceful resolution of the crisis must be supported), “The Four Partners Understanding” (The international community should jointly support efforts to resolve the Ukrainian crisis; All parties involved should act calmly and with restraint; Joint opposition to the use of nuclear weapons; Joint protection of global production and supply chains) and “Three Ideas” (There is no winner in war; Complex problems have no simple solutions ; Great states should avoid grouping). The Chinese side later published the document “China's stance on the political solution of the Ukraine crisis”.

While determining its own stance, China is trying to find the common interest of the parties by striving to get more support from the international community.

Xi recently met separately with the leaders of Russia, Germany, Spain, France and the EU. One of the focal agendas of these talks was the Ukraine crisis.

While China continues its efforts for peace, the USA is still trying to achieve its strategic goal by using Ukraine. But the USA aims only to meet its own needs, not for the common interest of the international community. For this reason, no matter how the USA calls, few countries will be able to gather with it.
