Antalya Metropolitan Municipality struck the first digging in Balbey, the city's 30-year-old bleeding wound. Within the scope of the 1st Phase of the Balbey Urban Renewal Project, the demolition of unregistered buildings has begun.

The problem of Balbey Mahallesi, which has been the bleeding wound of Antalya for 30 years, is finally coming to an end. The Metropolitan Municipality struck the first digging in the construction of the 1st Stage of the Balbey Urban Renewal Project, after reconciliation with the people of the neighborhood and the signing of the construction contracts. In the project carried out by the Metropolitan Municipality company ANTEPE, the demolition of unregistered structures has begun. Within the scope of the project, registered buildings will be restored, and non-registered structures will be demolished. 1st Phase of Balbey Urban Renewal Project will be completed quickly.
First Demolition Begins
Antalya Metropolitan Municipality Urban Transformation Branch Manager Süleyman Kocabaş stated that the first demolition started today and gave the following information: “We are working on an action in the area within the scope of Balbey Mahallesi Urban Renewal Project. In 2015, Balbey Neighborhood was declared an Urban Renewal area. Our President Muhittin BöcekWith the support of Non-Governmental Organizations, associations and the technical team, planning studies were resumed. After these planning studies were completed, the plans were approved by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism Conservation Regional Board and the Metropolitan Municipality Assembly. Afterwards, reconciliation studies were completed by explaining the architectural projects to our citizens. Notarized construction contracts were signed with our citizens. After the contracts were completed, we signed a protocol with ANTEPE, the subsidiary company of our Municipality, in the area and started the construction work. The first demolition is done today. There were also ruined, dilapidated and occupied structures in the area. Ultimately, we aim for a beautiful Balbey Project.”
I can not believe my eyes
Balbey Neighborhood Headman Abdullah Uyaroğlu expressed his happiness at the start of the project and said, “I really can't believe my eyes. I always said I wouldn't believe until the first pickaxe was shot. This process was really long and turned into a snake story. In the 1990s, our neighborhood was included in the protected area together with Kaleiçi and Kalekapısı. Citizens who have stayed here since then have had a lot of difficulties. We've had this problem for years. In this project, which will take place in stages, our citizens will regain their values without losing their rights.
