Associate Professor from Memorial Antalya Hospital, Department of Ear Nose and Throat Diseases. Dr. İsmail Önder Uysal told what should be known about rhinoplasty in men.

There are differences between male and female rhinoplasty

Mentioning that there are some differences between men and women in terms of aesthetic appearance, Assoc. Dr. İsmail Önder Uysal said, “Men generally do not want it to be understood that they have had surgery, they prefer it to be understood as if it is the shape of their nose from birth when viewed from the outside after aesthetics. Unlike women, they want a shape suitable for the masculine structure of masculinity. Women want a narrower, smaller nose, while men want a larger and flatter nose. In addition, the nose tips are wider and the nose edges are more structured compared to women. Since men do not want it to be understood that they have plastic nose surgery, it may be preferable to have the nose ridge slightly protruding rather than being perfectly straight.” used his statements.

Stating that the ideal age for rhinoplasty is 22, Assoc. Dr. İsmail Önder Uysal, “Today, many patients apply for rhinoplasty as soon as they turn 18, but it takes 22 years for the facial bones to fully settle. For this reason, 22 years of age is ideal for rhinoplasty or all aesthetic operations in men or women. Before the operation, it is important to understand exactly what the patient wants, to determine all angles, to prepare and photograph them in certain formats. All this must be recorded and the patient's signature must be obtained.” said.

It is necessary to be careful for 6 months after the operation

Assoc. Dr. İsmail Önder Uysal, stating that the things that male and female patients should pay attention to are the same after rhinoplasty, said, “After the first night, a period of 3-month attention begins. For two weeks, the nose is supported by plaster casts, so that it is protected from possible traumas. For this, the nose is supported with materials placed inside and outside the nose. The patient is asked not to wear glasses for 6 months, to be protected from the sun, and to be protected from even the slightest trauma to the face. It takes 6 months for the nose to completely heal and normal life is resumed after 6 months. he said.

Assoc. Dr. İsmail Önder Uysal listed the following as things to consider after rhinoplasty:

  • Avoid strenuous activities like crossfit and running.
  • Take a bath instead of a shower with a bandage on your nose.
  • Don't blow your nose.
  • Eat high-fiber foods like fruits and vegetables to prevent constipation. Constipation may cause pressure on the surgical site as it may cause edema.
  • Avoid excessive facial expressions such as smiling a lot or laughing.
  • Brush your teeth gently to limit the movement of your upper lip.
  • Wear clothes that tie in the front. Do not pull clothing such as shirts or sweaters over your head.
