China to Lay Fiber Cable Network to Connect Three Continents

China Telecom, China Mobile Limited and China United Network Communications Group; It plans to build a new fiber optic network that will connect Asia, Africa and Europe under the sea. The project, referred to as EMA, will cost around $500 million.

The cable required for this project will be produced by HMN Technologies and will be laid under the sea. After connecting Hong Kong to the Chinese island province of Hainan, the cable network will travel its way and connect with Singapore, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and France. It is also stated that all countries on this route will be able to connect to the said infrastructure.

This new project will improve internet connections for millions of people around the world and especially in Africa. In this context, Chinese telecommunications companies have already signed a partnership agreement with Telecom Egypt to connect the cable to Egypt. In addition, contacts were started with other operators in Africa for cooperation with the consortium.
