Samsun Metropolitan Municipality is making steel car guards on the roadsides that pose danger throughout the city in order to ensure the safety of drivers and pedestrians. The assembly process of the guardrails, which was previously made in the form of service procurement, is now carried out by the teams of the Metropolitan Municipality. Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mustafa Demir said that in transportation and infrastructure services, they work with the concern of ensuring the peace and comfort of citizens at the highest level, as well as maintaining the safety of life and property.
Continuing its work at great speed to make the roads safer for drivers and pedestrians in Samsun, the Metropolitan Municipality Department of Transportation will install a total of 60 kilometers of new guardrails on dangerous roadsides. While the assembly process of the guardrails was carried out for the first time with the team established within the Metropolitan Municipality, the newly installed guardrails are made of durable materials that are durable and resistant to impacts, as well as providing a high level of security.
60 KILOMETER CAR RAILS WILL BE BUILT
Samsun Metropolitan Municipality Traffic Services Branch Manager Murat Arslan said that by making steel guardrails on the 17-kilometer road network in 5 districts, they aim to ensure safer travel for the drivers and to minimize traffic accidents. We usually install it on beveled areas, on cliff edges. We want to prevent the vehicles from falling into the abyss in the event of an accident, God forbid. We take the necessary measures according to the Highway Traffic Law. We replace worn or damaged guardrails with new ones, while placing completely new manufactured guardrails in places where there are no guardrails.”
SERIOUS BUDGET SAVINGS
Stating that the guardrail installation work was previously done by outsourcing, but now it is carried out with the team established within the municipality, Arslan said, “We have created a team and equipment within our Metropolitan Municipality. We are now doing these works ourselves with our newly purchased machinery. He continued:
“As of this year, we are planning to build 10 kilometers of guardrails. So far, we have completed the production of a guardrail for 5 kilometers. We will make all the routes we have determined step by step. As the Metropolitan Municipality Department of Transportation, our main goal is to keep pedestrian and vehicle safety at the highest level and to ensure that our citizens can travel comfortably. Therefore, our work will continue uninterruptedly.”

The work done also makes the drivers happy. The driver of the vehicle, Muammer Aydemir, stated that a very important and beautiful work has been done for safe transportation and said, "We thank the Metropolitan Municipality and our mayor for considering the safety of life and property of the drivers." Another vehicle driver, Recep Ayvaz, said, “The steel barriers, God forbid, are of great importance in accidents. Doing it for him makes us feel safer on the roads.
