Izmir Metropolitan Municipality started container production in three separate workshops, two in Izmir and one in Hatay, in order to solve the problem of sheltering in the disaster area. Containers prepared in the workshops of the Department of Science Affairs and ESHOT General Directorate in İzmir and sent to Hatay as demounted are assembled here and offered to the use of earthquake victims. Izmir Metropolitan Municipality will produce 500 containers in the first place and put them at the disposal of earthquake victims.

After the earthquake that shook Turkey and affected 10 provinces, Izmir Metropolitan Municipality teams continue their efforts to meet the shelter needs of earthquake victims. Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, which started to serve earthquake victims with tent cities established in Hatay and Osmaniye, also produces containers in three centers.

Container carcasses prepared in the workshops of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Science Affairs Department in Belkahve and Eshot General Directorate in Gediz are sent to Hatay as disassembled. In addition to the materials coming as raw materials in Hatay, the carcasses sent from Izmir are combined in the workshop established here, and 30 container houses are produced per day.

While two containers assembled with a truck can be sent, this number can rise to 15 thanks to the method applied.

Production for 500 containers in Hatay

Ertuğrul Tugay, Deputy Secretary General of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, who gave information about the works, said, “We had a process of determining a location to establish a container city here. We are waiting for information from AFAD for the allocation of space. In order to progress faster in this process, we started to produce containers here with the science teams of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality. We set up a workshop. We are creating the carcass structures, and when we take them, we will immediately close them with panel vans and open them for the use of our citizens. We will create an opportunity for our earthquake victims to spend the winter in a healthier environment. We are currently planning to prepare 500 containers for Hatay.” he said.

İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Deputy Secretary General Özgür Ozan Yılmaz stated that they produce containers from three branches and said, “We send the carcasses prepared in two workshops in İzmir to the region, and our teams there do the assembly process. In this way, we produce 30 containers per day. This method both reduces costs and offers the opportunity to produce faster.”
