“It hurt our heart to see the same images, 24 times more, more tragically, in our 10 provinces after 10 years. From the first moment, we mobilized for the needs of our people. We went to the region with our President. We're back, I'm in this building again today. Of course, we made some observations. Our people are in pain. There are those who have lost their children. Those who experienced this shock, mothers, children, young people, must have seen me walking by a young university student. You know, you know, running, you know, saying my president, hugged, once started to cry in İslahiye. Many moments like this. So it burned a lot, scorched it.”
“THE DEFICIENCIES CAN BE TALKED BUT…”
“As Istanbul, we were appointed by AFAD for Hatay on the first day. From the very first moment, we share our every step with AFAD. We talk to them every step of the way. We act with their approval and consent. We coordinate our installations in Hatay accordingly. When it comes to Istanbul, the most powerful institution of the country, from its technical equipment to its own staff, is Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality. A higher coordination is required and we act accordingly. So I want to say this. I can say a lot about how deficiencies, errors and coordination processes should be managed. But I don't see that day as today. There will be anger of our citizens, angry, bitter, pain is burning him. We do not say a single word. We managers cannot open their mouths against those people. We have to listen, we have to feel it. It's that clear. But beyond that, we must tell each other everything as managers when the time comes. Because AFAD is ours. Istanbul Municipality is ours.”
WE ARE ESTABLISHING TWO BIG LOGISTICS CENTERS
“We are there with all our elements, from the search and rescue team to our construction equipment, from our generators to our mobile gas stations. We currently have 1.861 personnel and 503 business machines. Our fully equipped search and rescue team of 867 personnel is in the area. Our teams rescued 444 people alive from the rubble. They intervened in the fire in Iskenderun Port. Cooling work continues. Our team is ready. We are establishing a large logistics area in two regions. One of them is in Iskenderun. It has a closed area of approximately 10 thousand square meters. We are establishing a logistics area in another area of 35 thousand square meters. Our 9-meter management tent is being put into use as of this evening. The area that I call 35-five thousand square meters is in Antakya. We will also establish a logistics area in Samandag.”
WATER, BREAD, AMBULANCE, MOBILE TOILET…
“We will form camps where approximately 700 tents will be ready. Every day, we send 10 trucks to the region of Hamidiye Su. So far 51 trucks have gone. We have sent 20 trucks, approximately 2 million 200 thousand pieces of Mediterranean type nutritious bread, packaged bread so far. We have allocated 1,4 million packaged production of Halk Ekmek to that region. At the same time, a kitchen with a capacity of 6 thousand people is currently serving. Our facility, which produces 15 thousand breads, has started production again in Hatay. 140 mobile toilets in the area. We install 42 mobile showers. We set up a charging station. Our healthcare team is there. We have a medical team together with 5 ambulances. We have 454 construction machinery areas of four different capacities. We sent 317 trucks of aid. In particular, these were our trucks with blankets, winter clothes, heater generators and hygiene materials. Our 14 Republican People's Party municipalities also continue to help.”
TOTAL 2.400 PEOPLE WILL ACCOMMODATE
“We have prepared a very exemplary study. We prepared the ferryboats of those big vehicles that we took over from İDO. We are transforming it into an accommodation center. We have 2 vehicles and we send them there. Each of these will provide shelter for 1.200 people. The weather is very very cold and this will continue. We will be able to accommodate 1.200 people, especially children, families with children and families with elderly people.”
A PROMOTION HAS BEEN MADE IN IDLIP
“In September, an opening and promotion was made by the Ministry of Interior as 100 thousand briquette houses. And there is a recipe that by the end of the year they will all be formed. I'm talking about the end of 2022. If I am not mistaken, a little over 60 thousand settlements have been built there, but if 100 thousand houses have been reached, there is a serious potential of 40 thousand houses there. Idlib is approximately 1,5 hours away from Hatay. I think that some of our Syrian guests can be accommodated in these ready-made houses.”
“I WILL FIND MY LEGAL RIGHTS”
“I just went back to the statements in Kahramanmaraş and said you are not normal, sister. His words, which were reflected in the press after that, are very painful. If he were a normal citizen, we wouldn't be able to say anything. Whatever he says, we stop. But I learned that he was a deputy; one of the former MPs. I will seek my legal rights. Because he has no right. Our citizens talk about other things. We cannot say anything. We listen to it with all our soul. We think about what we missed. There is slander, there is insult. Let Sheikh Edebali's behavior towards Osman Gazi be a lesson to the former deputy.”
WE WILL DIP THE BAGS ON OURSELVES
“I said this on the first day. Make a preparation. Let what we do, what we undertake to do, what we have to do in cooperation with other institutions of our state, whatever we have determined. Stages of Istanbul's fight against earthquakes. Because we have it all. We mapped out. We have put forward a strategy document called Vision 2050. I said that I will tell all these to our citizens. Two and a half weeks later, we will tell our citizens again in an open and transparent manner about our own responsibilities, what we do and what we cannot do. We will share this with a language that questions what we can't do or why they didn't want to cooperate with us, and that sticks the needle to someone else.”
THERE ARE 90 THOUSAND BUILDINGS AT RISK IN ISTANBUL
We did a big study and entered the houses with the quick scan method. We have reached 107 thousand building visits and thirty thousand building inspections. In risk assessment, we have 170 thousand moderately damaged buildings and 90 thousand heavy and very damaged buildings in a possible earthquake.
