President Soyer Went to Erzin District of Hatay, Which Survived the Earthquake Without Destruction

Mayor of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Tunç Soyerwent to the Erzin district of Hatay, where not a single building was destroyed in the earthquake. Visiting Erzin Mayor Ökkeş Elmasoğlu, Mayor Soyer said that for earthquake resistant cities, it is necessary to proceed in the light of science.

Mayor who visited Erzin Mayor Ökkeş Elmasoğlu at Erzin Municipality Station Chief Tunç Soyerreceived information about the earthquake process.

Earthquake presentation to Izmir

During the visit, upon the request of Erzin Mayor Elmasoğlu about the earthquake studies, Mayor Soyer said, “We will make a presentation about the earthquake in İzmir. We will describe our short, medium and long-term work. We will both explain what should be done in the event of a disaster and present a vision for the future. We have to move forward in the light of science,” he said.

“They ignored nature”

President Soyer stated that they saw a great gap and weakness in the earthquake and said, “Has all this not been considered at all? Here is the biggest example of Hatay Airport. They tried to dry the Amik lake. After a long struggle, they managed to dry some of them. Since it was not suitable for agriculture, they built an airport. What happened? The airport was damaged, the planes could not land. When the highway collapsed, no one could come. We lost souls. This is how the state mind did it. The administrators of that period ignored nature and made this project.”

“Our conscience is at ease”

Erzin Mayor Ökkeş Elmasoğlu said, “We were happy that there was no destruction, but after our statement, people reacted that no help came here. They launched a serious political smear campaign. You are experiencing this, too. But our conscience is clear. Reconstruction peace is the death warrant of this country. I told my experiences as a mayor. This is the reality of Turkey. Politics needs to be changed, mentality needs to change. We know that you also have serious studies on earthquakes. We would like to take advantage of them," he said.
