Turkey is in the Top 15 for Pirated Software Usage

The transformation of digital into the center of business processes has brought with it an increase in the use of pirated software. While researches show that around two out of 5 people worldwide do not pay license fees for software, Turkey is the 14th country in which pirated software is used the most. With the digitization of business processes, office programs and design software have become indispensable for every business computer, while the use of pirated software has become a critical problem. Research conducted by Revenera Compliance Intelligence found that nearly two out of five people (5 percent) worldwide do not pay for software licenses. On the other hand, Turkey became the 37th country in the world ranking with the most pirated software usage.

Its cost exceeded 46 billion dollars

Although technology companies or platforms that develop software on a corporate scale developed subscription models, the use of pirated software could not be prevented. It was determined that the problem of not paying licenses to software on a global scale caused a cost of 46,3 billion dollars. The 5 countries with the most pirated software in the world were listed as China, Russia, USA, India and Germany.

Emre Arslan, Founder of Hepsilisans.com, stated that the cloud transformation and service model could not be fully adopted by users and businesses in Turkey, and said, “Users download office software, antivirus programs, operating system installation files that they will use for their professional needs from websites that share illegal software. Not only individual users can do this, even small businesses can do this," he said.

Cyber risks can cause more costs

Emphasizing that using unlicensed software is a crime as well as inviting cyber security risks, Emre Arslan said, “Illegal websites that distribute pirated software can modify these software files and insert malicious software into them. By running these files on computers, the virus can infect personal computers and other computers connected to the public network. This can lead to users having their personal information and passwords stolen. Infected codes added to plugins and themes of content management systems such as WordPress can turn websites into malicious sites. In particular, businesses can incur larger costs in this way, which they prefer to avoid paying monthly license fees. Moreover, individuals and institutions can even be sentenced to prison under the Law on Intellectual and Artistic Works and the Turkish Commercial Code.

“A license must be purchased for personal or professional use”

Emre Arslan, the Founder of Hepsilisans.com, reminded that in addition to the virus risks, pirated software could not get the latest updates made by the manufacturers, especially when it comes to operating systems or antivirus software, and this situation makes the programs dysfunctional over time, and concluded his evaluations with the following statements: "Operating system, Microsoft Office, antivirus, As Hepsilisans, which offers VPN, design and SEO tools, WordPress themes and plugins, and Adobe Creative Cloud solutions at affordable prices, we recommend paying the license fee and purchasing a subscription for each individual or corporate use. Since most of these software are priced in dollars in the Turkish market, the costs can be high for businesses or individual users. As Hepsilicans, we enable all users to use professional software, games and platforms without any obstacles, with the license options we offer for various products and platforms.”
