The officials of the 9th Regional Directorate of Nature Conservation and National Parks of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry took action after detecting that a citizen in Ankara had tamed a squirrel that is forbidden to be kept at home. The teams, who seized the squirrel, which was determined to be fed in bad conditions, delivered the cute creature to the Keçiören Municipality. The squirrel, which cannot survive if it is left to its natural habitat because it has been domesticated, will now continue to live in the special section reserved for it in the Keçiören Municipality Natural Habitat Area.

After the health checks carried out by the Keçiören Municipality veterinarians, the squirrel who was found to have a problem with one foot was taken under care and treatment. Keçiören Mayor Turgut Altınok also took a close interest in the squirrel, who underwent a rapid recovery. Altınok fed the cute creature, which did not run away from people because it was domesticated, with peanuts.

Stating that the cute squirrel is in safe hands, Mayor Altınok said, “There were many squirrels in Ankara in the past. You know, squirrels live by jumping from tree to tree. Rumor has it that there are a lot of forests in Ankara. But not now. It is said that trees were cut down or burned for security reasons in wars. In our Natural Life Park, we will feed this creature, which should live in the forest area, but we know that it cannot adapt to the wild life because it is domesticated. Our citizens can visit and see our squirrel easily.” said.
