Diyarbakir Metropolitan Municipality has started to produce results in many zoning activities, from the revival of the historical and cultural structures of the city to the reintroduction of urban depression areas to the city.

Within the scope of the restoration works initiated by the Department of Reconstruction and Urbanization in 2020 with the motto "Resurrection Begins on the Walls"; In the 1st stage, the restoration of 2 bastions and the fortification walls connecting them, including the 6 bastions protecting the Urfa Gate, the most well-known and qualified bastions such as Ben u Sen Bastion (Great Body), Yedi Kardeş Bastion, Nur Bastion and Seljuk Bastion, were completed. landscaping work continues.

Restoration of a total of 2 bastions in the 13nd phase, retaining wall around Amida Höyük, excavation and landscaping works have been completed.

Within the scope of the 3rd stage works, the works were completed on the Dağkapı bastions, One Body and 7,8.

In the 5th phase, starting from the İçkale Walls, the most damaged part of the walls, which is 950 meters, overlooking the Tigris valley, is being restored.

Restoration continues on the bastions and fortification walls numbered 6-39 during the 40th phase works. Within the scope of the works, the bushings 1 and 21, located next to the Urfa Gate, where emergency intervention was performed in the 22st stage, where it poses a danger, are being repaired.

History gushed in restorations

In the excavations numbered 3 and 7 within the scope of the 8rd stage restoration works, the water network, which was built by Suleiman the Magnificent in 1543 to meet the water needs of the people, and which met the needs of the city until 1930, was found.

It was determined that it belonged to different periods from its construction style and forms, that the pipes at the top belong to the recent Ottoman period, and the pipes that are deeper belong to the Roman period.

1700 year old "Amphora" found

Within the scope of the 5th stage fortification restoration works, a 71-year-old amphora (a kind of jug) dating back to 72 AD was unearthed, based on the way it was built and the motifs on it, during the excavations between bastions 330 and 1700.

The pointed-bottomed amphora used in olive oil or wine transportation, which is important because it was seen for the first time in the region, is considered to belong to the Late Roman-Early Byzantine Period.

1500 year old lamp found

A 39-year-old oil lamp, which was supposed to belong to the Roman period, was found, based on the way it was made and the motifs on it, during the ongoing restoration work on the 40-1500 bastions.

The artifacts unearthed in the works carried out by the Department of Development and Urbanization, KUDEB Branch Directorate, were delivered to the Diyarbakır Museum Directorate.

Şehzadeler Mansion will be Sezai Karakoç Thematic Literature Youth Center

The teams, who have been working devotedly in order to carry out the restoration in the historical mansion, cleaned the interventions with cement and strengthened the building with mortar and materials in accordance with the original.

In the building, plastering on the domes and vaults and jointing on the walls was completed, and the lighting work was also completed.

During the restoration works, the stones thought to belong to the original floor of the building were reused in the missing parts in accordance with their original form.

The Şehzadeler Mansion, whose restoration works have been completed, will be named after the famous poet Sezai Karakoç from Diyarbakır, and the historical mansion will be put into service as the “Thematic Literature Youth Center”.

The Department of Zoning and Urbanization solved the insulation problem that caused dampness in the bush with the project it prepared.

The teams, which cleaned the surface with sandblasting for interior cleaning, eliminated the problem of water accumulation at the entrance of the bush.

After the empty stone and brick joint surfaces were filled, the wall filling that was emptied due to the water leaking into the building was reinforced by injection.

The bastion, where the works were completed, was put into service as a place where they can rest and meet their needs while going to the hospital from the provinces and districts or with their child.

In the horoscope, where free psychological support is given to women, reading-Writing, Quran, Tafsir, Handicrafts, Psychological Support, Spiritual Guidance, Social Work, Close Defense, Game Room and Cookery courses are offered.

The restoration of the historic mill is coming to an end

The restoration works started at the historical water mill in Sur district, which is estimated to have been built at the end of the 18th century and the beginning of the 19th century, has come to an end.

After the restoration, the historical mill, which will be operated by the water that comes from Karacadağ and is directed towards the Hevsel Gardens from the Prophet Süleyman Mosque, will process the wheat with traditional methods to obtain flour, as in the past. The ground flour will be turned into bread by being cooked in the tandoors to be built in the mill garden within the scope of the project.

The mill will serve the citizens with the buffet and social facility areas to be built within the scope of the post-restoration project.
