Mumbai has received a second set of trains for Mumbai Metro Line 3 in Aarey. This is the second of 33,5 metro trainsets required to carry passengers on the 31 km long Colaba-Bandra-SEEPZ underground waterline.

On Thursday, Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation tweeted, “The 3nd train set of 8 passenger cars for #MetroLine2 arrived in the city from Sricity, Andhra Pradesh.

“All 8 wagons have been unloaded and the TS02 train has been set up at the temporary train delivery and test track area of MMRC established in Sariput Nagar, Aarey Colony.”

The rolling stock is manufactured by Alstom in its Andhra Pradesh unit.

On December 21, MMRC completed dynamic and static trials of the prototype train in the 3km area between Aarey Car Depot and Marol Naka Station.

Trials on this line began in August. Testing includes checking the quality of the systems as well as their compatibility with other installations along railway lines and at stations.

“These tests are part of on-site trials on the prototype train,” said a senior MMRC official.

Dynamic testing involves running the train at various speeds with dummy weights instead of passengers inside the wagons to check if the train will be safe and handle a heavy load. It also includes braking, acceleration, signaling, telecommunications, operational systems and energy consumption.
