Moscow Metro signed an additional agreement with Transmash holding to the train supply contract. Under the agreement, Moscow will receive 2020 more metro cars since 1800, totaling more than 500. All Oka, Moskva and Moskva-2020 trains are maintained by a service company during their entire 30-year service life.
The document provides for the delivery of metro cars in 2024-2025. Although 70% of passengers travel on new generation trains (more than 2010 new cars have been purchased since 4.000), trains will be modernized from 2024. Improvements include updated interior and exterior design, modern charging stations in each car, it will be easier for disabled passengers to get in and out of the first cars. Since 2024, a number of improvements will be made to the wagons - even more technological and modern - said Moscow's Deputy Mayor for Transport Maksim Liksutov.
The contract will enable manufacturers to realize their production plans, and the Moscow Government will be guaranteed to implement the wagon refurbishment program. With the delivery of the wagons, Moscow will be able to open new lines, including the full commissioning of the Big Circle Line, with the usual short intervals between trains. In addition, the implementation of the production plan will save about 100.000 jobs in all Russian companies involved in production. Regular delivery of new wagons also allows for the creation of new suitable jobs in the Moscow Metro: for example, at the Nizhegorodskoye and Aminyevskoye warehouses, which are currently under construction.
The innovative Moskva-2020 train is the most modern train model in the Moscow Metro, surpassing foreign counterparts in many features. The model won the Red Dot Award for best design: Product Design in 2021. The international jury unanimously awarded the highest score in the Trains and Planes category.
