The deadline for identification and registration of owned pets ends tomorrow (31 December 2022). Pursuant to the Animal Protection Law No. 5199 and the “Regulation on the Identification and Registration of Cats, Dogs and Ferrets”, pet owners must identify their animals and register them in the PetVet Registration System (PETVET) until 31 December 2022 at the latest.

The pet's name, passport number, breed, breed, gender, color, date of birth, owner's name, province, district, village/neighbourhood, and emergency contact information are recorded in the PetVet Registration System (PETVET).

In addition, information about vaccination, change of owner, loss and operation performed on the animal are also recorded.

With the regulation, pet owners were obliged to ensure the identification of cats, dogs and ferrets, and to notify the provincial/district directorates of information about birth, death, loss and change of owner.

Since January 1, 2021, a total of 762 million 115 thousand 524 pets, including 556 thousand 23 cats, 1 thousand 286 dogs and 694 ferrets, have been identified and registered.

A subcutaneous microchip is applied to cats, dogs and ferrets and can be read through a handheld terminal. From now on, the owner of the abandoned cat and dog can be determined by reading the hand terminal. All vaccinations of the animal, especially the rabies vaccine, will be recorded.

In order to overcome the difficulties that may be encountered in the microchip application and registration process due to the shortening of the time, the density or the difficulties encountered due to various reasons, if the pet owners apply to the Agriculture and Forestry provincial/district directorates with a "Declaration" until 31.12.2022, the microchip application and registration process will be followed. can be completed without any penal action in the following process.

Declarations can be submitted to provincial/district directorates and independent veterinarians until 31 December. The declarations received by the independent veterinarians will be submitted to the provincial/district directorates by 31 December.

Owned pets up to the age of 6 months can be identified and recorded in the following process.

At the same time, "Pet Passport" is issued in international standards during the registration of pets.

If passports are lost, stolen or destroyed, they must be reported to the provincial/district directorate within 60 days at the latest. In this case, a new passport can be issued.

In case of death of owned pets, it must be reported to the provincial/district directorates within 30 days, and the passports of the animals must be delivered and deducted from the system.

OWNERSHIP CHANGE

For the change of owner of pets, the change of owner of the database and passport of the new owner of the animal must be processed by applying to the provincial/district directorates within 60 days with the "Pet Change Ownership Certificate".

TRANSPORT OF PEOPLE (TRAVEL)

It is obligatory for the pet to have its microchip applied, its passport issued and registered in PETVET when traveling abroad with a passenger or commercially.

It is obligatory to have a passport for domestic animals. Administrative sanctions are imposed on pet owners who do not have a passport.

HOW WILL THE PROCESS WORK ON HORRIBLE ANIMALS?

In accordance with the Animal Protection Law No. 5199, stray animals must be identified by local governments.

Animals that are wanted to be adopted from the street can be registered without any penal sanction.

If the identification process of the animals that are wanted to be adopted from the street has not been made, an application will be made to the animal shelters and the identification will be provided with the "Certificate of Adoption", and they can be registered in PETVET (Pet Registration System) by the provincial/district directorates without any penalty.

TREATMENT OF HORRIBLE ANIMALS

There are no restrictions on the treatment of stray animals by veterinarians.
