'Winter' Hope in Bursa's Dams

The Metropolitan Municipality continues uninterruptedly its plans and investments realized by BUSKI 'to minimize the effects of the problems experienced due to climate changes all over the world in Bursa'. While there is a 60-day water reserve in the dams, Bursa is expected to have a trouble-free 2023 year with the expected precipitation in winter.

Even in 2019, when the drought was most intense in Bursa, the Metropolitan Municipality, which did not leave the people of Bursa without water even for a day with the 'opened new deep wells', will not keep the city thirsty this year either by minimizing the loss and leakage rates and using the resources efficiently. Bursa Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Alinur Aktaş said that the water reserve in the dams meets Bursa's water needs for approximately 60 days. Noting that an increase in precipitation is expected with the onset of the winter season, Mayor Aktaş said, “The annual water capacity of Nilüfer, one of the dams that meet Bursa's water needs, is 60 million, and that of Doğancı Dam is 110 million cubic meters. As of now, the occupancy rate of Doğancı Dam is 38%, and that of Nilüfer Dam is 3 percent. The occupancy rates here should not cause anyone to worry. Incidentally, I would like to point out that the purpose of the existence of the Nilüfer Dam, which is at a higher elevation in the same basin, is to provide water to the Doğancı Dam 'during periods of insufficient rainfall'. In conclusion, I can say that the current occupancy rates of the dams are in a position to meet the water needs of Bursa for about 60 days, even in the absence of precipitation. Moreover, considering the fact that rain and snowfall will begin in the coming days, there is no cause for concern.”

Noting that they are trying not to leave Bursa without water with the crisis action plans that they keep up to date, Mayor Aktaş emphasized that they expect similar sensitivities from the citizens for the efficient use of water.

Meanwhile, while projects are being completed for the inclusion of drinking water in the Çınarcık Dam into the existing network in line with Bursa's needs; The process of investment loan negotiations is progressing rapidly.
