7 Tips for Sleeping Patterns in Children

Specialist Psychologist Tuğçe Yılmaz gave important information about the subject. Sleep training is a system that teaches the baby to sleep independently. From the 4th or 6th month onwards, with sleep training, babies' false associations with sleep (sucking to sleep, standing rocking, rocking on the lap) are eliminated and babies learn to go to sleep independently.

Especially nowadays, it is very easy to reach information, but the most important thing is to reach the right information. There is a lot of information about sleep problems in all channels.

While some of this information is correct, some of it is unfortunately incorrect information. For this reason, parents also have difficulty in reaching the right information and are often worried about the accuracy of the information they have rightfully reached.

The tips you need to prevent this information pollution and to provide your baby with a sleep pattern in 7 steps;

1- SLEEP ROUTINE
To create a sleep routine, activities such as bathing, massage, breastfeeding, flatulence, lullaby or singing can be done at the same time and order every day.

2- PHYSICAL CONDITIONS
Physical conditions are very important for falling asleep and maintaining quality sleep. The temperature of the room, humidity, light and a noise-free environment are indispensable factors for sleep. The temperature of the room should be 21-22 degrees. A completely dark environment is the healthiest for sleep. But in some processes, a tiny night light can be used. It is important for sleep safety that there are no pillows or similar objects in the bed until the age of 2 years.

3. SLEEP INTERVALS
One of the most important points that we should pay attention to when creating a baby's sleep pattern is sleep intervals. Sleep intervals vary according to the months of the babies. It is very important to follow the sleep interval charts created according to the months, as well as to observe your baby's sleep signs (ear scratching, eye scratching, focusing on one point, moodiness).

4. NUTRITION
Babies should be fed before going to sleep, and they should lie down with a full stomach. Children who take additional food should have finished their meals 1 hour before going to sleep. Children older than 8 months (unless the doctor recommends otherwise) do not need night feeding.

5. REGULAR DAY SLEEP
Contrary to popular belief, a good night's sleep ensures that children have a good night's sleep as well. It impairs sleep quality.

6. SIGN IN YOUR ROOM
The longest period of keeping babies in the same room with parents should be 1 year (against sudden infant death syndrome). Babies who sleep in their own room sleep much better.

7. TEACH INDEPENDENT SLEEPING
If you want your babies to sleep quality, you must teach them to sleep independently, while providing order. Children who do not need support during sleep transitions sleep adequately and uninterruptedly during the day and night. Supported-sleeping babies, on the other hand, expect support to return to sleep in each sleep cycle.
