Mayor of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Tunç Soyer announced that they are counting the days for the opening of the Gökdere Rehabilitation and Adoption Center, which they established in Bornova for stray animals, on April 4, Stray Animals Day. The center, which was completed with an investment of 38 million liras, will be a home for 500 dogs at the same time, and there will be a shelter for the abandoned pack animals in the center.

Gökdere Rehabilitation and Adoption Center, which was established by İzmir Metropolitan Municipality in Bornova, was completed. We tripled the number of sterilized stray animals. In order to further increase this number, we launched the 'Street Dogs Rehabilitation Service' in cooperation with the Izmir Chamber of Veterinarians, by signing an exemplary practice for Turkey. In the very near future, we will open a rehabilitation and adoption center for stray animals at European standards. We will name this facility after Pako, the dog of master writer Bekir Coşkun, whom we lost.”

Units for puppies and different breeds of dogs were established in the center. The center, which will be a home for 500 dogs at the same time, was built on an area of ​​approximately 38 thousand square meters with an investment of 37 million liras. In the center, whose capacity can be up to 3 dogs with additional shelters, there will also be a sheltering area of ​​4 square meters for abandoned pack animals. There will also be veterinary service units, prohibited breed shelters and quarantine sections where the problems of animals in need of treatment and rehabilitation will be resolved and adoption will be encouraged in the center, whose design is focused on green areas. In the facility, which also includes an open-air amphitheater and a show area, citizens will be able to come together with dogs in a common area with the slogan of "Don't buy and own". The center, unlike the others, has plenty of green space.
