The Ministry of National Defense announced that the Underwater Defense Teams (SAS) intervened to neutralize the mine detected off the coast of İğneada.

On Saturday, a mine was found at the Black Sea entrance of the Bosphorus.

Coast Guard Command teams took action for the object, which was seen on Saturday morning off Sarıyer and was suspected to be a mine, and the mine was neutralized as a result of the intervention of SAS teams.

Igneadalı fisherman told how he noticed the mine

Noticing the mine off the Igneada town of Demirköy district of Kırklareli, which has a coast to the Black Sea, the fisherman Çağrı Martin said, “We came close to 200 meters, we noticed it at the last moment. We immediately turned around and took our net and reported it.” said.

Martin said that they realized that there was a mine about 200 meters away from the area where they laid the net in the sea.

Expressing that they immediately reported the situation to the authorities, Martin stated that they were very afraid.

Explaining that the Coast Guard Command teams came to the region after their news, Martin said:

“It's a big mine, we panicked, we immediately reported it over the radio. The Coast Guard came, the seaplane came, they took us away. We are also prohibited from going to the sea today. It's not good for our life safety if we go out. Money is not important, life is more important. Money is always earned. We came close to 200 meters, we realized at the last moment, there was only 200 meters left, we immediately turned around and informed them, we warned everyone not to approach here.”

Fisherman Erman Can Günay also expressed that they have been worried about the mine for 3 days.

Expressing that he learned that there were mines in the sea with the announcement of his fishing friends, Günay said, “It is a difficult situation. We can say that we have closed the season now. We do not know where the mine will come from, we are in all kinds of troubled situations. We did not see the mine, but we were close to our friend who saw it, not too far away.” used the expressions.

Harbor Master Resul Ulaş said that they shared the situation with the District Governor's Office and the Coast Guard upon a report of a stray mine observation about 7 miles off the İğneada Lighthouse. Ulaş noted that they passed a radio announcement to the fishermen in the region to end their activities and return to the port.
